Inspiration
for the title of the first 2004-2005 Voices & Choices
Gallery show comes from the celebrated dancer-choreographer, Judith Jamison reflecting in her autobiography on the "work and beauty" of learning to play the piano - "I've always felt
that complement of opposites: body and soul, solitude
and companionship, and in the dance studio, contraction
and release, rise and fall." The September 2004
exhibit is a colorful art and literature collection from
the multicultural world of late 20th century dance.
There are contemporary and vintage prints of
professionals like Judith Jamison, Alvin Ailey, Gregory
Hines, Bill T. Jones, Josephine Baker and prints of the
amateurs who are often the source of popular creative
dance expression.
The Voices & Choices Center provides
a selected annotated list of resources available in the library to augment the current dance exhibit.
This exhibit supports the
Kutztown University Performing
Artists Series' Philadanco presentation on Thursday,
September 23, 2004. |
