As with Japan’s Yamato drumming group, feelings of
togetherness, expressions of happiness, energy, and
spirit are found in folk rhythms throughout the world.
Percussion instruments bring the opportunity to
experience a shared ancient pulse of the heart or the
breath with the provocative timing and tones projected
through objects that can resound to move the human soul.
The Voices & Choices Center provides
a selected annotated list of resources
available in the library to augment the current folk
rhythms exhibit. Selected titles listed here are a few
from Rohrbach Library’s collection meant to familiarize rhythm-makers and potential rhythm-makers with a wealth of instruments meant to be struck or shaken to extract the most intriguing of sounds.
This exhibit supports the
Kutztown University Performing
Artists Series' show by the
Yamato Drummers of Japan on
Monday, November 21, 2005.
