A Rare Opportunity
Last November a historic event in computer science took place when six cars, entirely computer-controlled, navigated a 55 mile trek in an urban landscape - with traffic! Out of 78 entrants in the competition, only 11 qualified for the final challenge; of those, only six completed the course. The car that came in fourth was Little Ben, developed by Lehigh University and the University of Pennsylvania. We are very fortunate to have John Spletzer of Lehigh, one of the co-team leaders, as the Keynote Speaker of a conference KU is hosting. Because of the historical significance of this accomplishment we have decided to open this portion of the conference to the public - free of charge. All members of the KU community are cordially invited to hear Dr. Spletzer talk about the Ben Franklin Racing Team and the extraordinary future of intelligent robotics.
The lecture will be Friday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Auditorium, McFarland Student Union.
Oskars Rieksts, professor of computer science, Co-Chair, PACISE 2008
