Madeleine Albright served as U.S. secretary of state from 1997 to 2001. Her distinguished career in government includes positions in the National Security Council and as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. She is the author of two New York Times bestselling books, "Madam Secretary" and "The Mighty and the Almighty: Reflections on America, God, and World Affairs." She is the founder of the Albright Group LLC and Albright Capital Management LLC, chairman of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, president of the Harry S. Keith Gilyard gives Foust Lecture and Keynote for Composition Conference, Wednesday, April 9

The English department's Composition Conference for First-Year Student Writers and the 2008 Foust Lecture for the Humanities present Keith Gilyard, who will speak on the topic "Tragicomic Hope, African American Music, and Rhetorical Education" on Wednesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. in Boehm Auditorium. 

A native of New York City who holds graduate degrees from Columbia University and New York University, Gilyard is a Distinguished Professor of English at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park. Author of numerous publications, Gilyard's books include "Voices of the Self: A Study of Language Competence" (1991), for which he received an American Book Award, "Let's Flip the Script, An African American Discourse on Language Literature, and Learning" (1996), and "Liberation Memories: The Rhetoric and Poetics of John Oliver Killens" (2003).

REALITY CHECK AHEAD '08 Tour on Campus

Today the A.W.A.R.E. III ™ SIMULATOR will be on campus on the McFarland Student Union lawn area from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The DUI/DWI simulator is designed to realistically show participants the dangers of drinking and driving.  You will have an opportunity to wear panoramic virtual reality goggles and experience a computer-controlled road conditions while sitting in a stationary vehicle. Stop by and check out the tour! If you have any questions please contact Frances Cortez Funk at 610-683-4240, or cortez@kutztown.edu.

Asian Celebration

East meets West with the Multicultural Center's Annual Asian Heritage Festival on Thursday, April 10. This year's celebration will feature live traditional music and a variety folk and classical dances from India and Indonesia, henna demonstrations, and food flavors of Indonesia. Come and  enjoy the performers while you are sampling the Indonesian delights. Join us from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the McFarland Student Union.

The 27th Annual Kutztown University Job Fair for Educators is being held Wednesday, April 9, at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Fogelsville/Breinigsville, Pa., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. School districts from numerous states will be recruiting education seniors and alumni. The job fair is open to the public and there is no pre-registration for candidates; a resume will be collected at the door. There is a $5 admission fee for all non-Kutztown university students and alumni.

Performances of "Little Shop of Horrors," by the Department of Speech Communication & Theatre and the Department of Music, will be April 8 to April 12 at 8 p.m., with matinees at 2 p.m. on April 12 and April 13, at Rickenbach Theatre in the Learning Center. Tickets are $10 in advance for students, or $15 cash for everyone at the door. ''Little Shop of Horrors,'' with book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, and music by Alan Menken, was originally produced by the WPA Theatre at the Orpheum Theatre in New York City. Drawn from a low-budget 1960 horror movie by Roger Corman, with a screenplay by Charles Griffith, it is a Faustian musical about a timid clerk who sells his soul to a man-eating cactus.

Perforum, KU's Performing Arts Group, will be meeting today from 11 a.m. to noon in 106 Rickenbach Learning Center. If you are interested in our upcoming trip to Broadway to see "Gypsy," please come join the club. Dates and ticket prices will be revealed at the meeting, and the meeting will be followed by theatre games and improvisational exercises. All students and faculty interested in performance, spoken word, poetry slams, reader's theatre, performance art, multicultural performance, etc., are encouraged to attend.
