Tune into Kutztown University Radio (KUR) this Saturday night from 9-9:15 p.m. for the “Multicultural Center Radio Show.” This week, KUR looks back on the “Asian Heritage Festival” which was held on April 10. KUR sits down with dancer Somdatta Gaswami to hear about the ancient art of Asian dance. The program ends with a touch of Asian music. KUR can be heard on-campus at 88.3 FM, 1670 AM, around the local region at Service Electric Cable Channel 24 and Hometown Utilicom Cable Channel 41, and anywhere in the world on-line at http://kur.kutztown.edu/

A performance art piece by James Weiss and the Brooklyn band Rahu-Ketu "Cartography" will be presented on 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 in the Georgian Room.

This collaboration between storyteller James Weiss and the Brooklyn rock 'n' roll ensemble Rahu Ketu interweaves image/music/text.  Projected videos help to map the story of travel in the early 21st century. Layered instrumental music intersects with stories about time travelers, African street preachers, and a guy building an ark in Ohio. This is a show for everyone (kid friendly) and particularly for students of theater, creative writing, and visual art.

There will be a reception for the artists at Eckhaus Art Gallery following the performance. A $5 donation is recommended.

Sponsored by Eckhaus (a student-run art gallery at 157 W. Main Street)

Kutztown University Radio’s webstream has been very fickle lately, working well sometimes, not so good other times. KUR now has a backup stream going so that if the main stream fails to load or cuts out midstream, listeners can simply switch over to the backup stream. For details and the link to the backup stream, visit KUR’s website at http://kur.kutztown.edu/ Kutztown University Radio is the radio voice of Kutztown University.

TODAY'S EVENTS

FACULTY SHOP TALK
Join your colleagues today in 250 McFarland Student Union for conversation, refreshments, and a chance to learn about the scholarly activities of one of your colleagues at the third and final Spring 2008 Faculty Shop Talk. This month's presentation by Dr. Carlos Vargas, Provost, is titled "Let us chat about radiation."  Dr. Vargas' talk will focus on relatively "low energy" radiation, its sources, and its detection and measurement. And for those of you who are physics-phobes, he promises that no formulae will be used! Attendees assemble at 4 p.m. for refreshments and conversation, with the presentation commencing at 4:20 p.m.

For more information, including the 2007-2008 schedule, and to see an abstract of Dr. Vargas' talk, please visit: http://faculty.kutztown.edu/butler/FacultyShopTalks.html

Although the schedule is filled for this year, anyone with an interest in participating next year as a Shop Talk presenter is encouraged to submit an abstract for the 2008-2009 schedule. Contact Nancy Butler (butler@kutztown.edu) or visit the webpage for more information.

"What are you going to do to end the silence?"

National Day of Silence is today. "The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. This year’s event will be held in memory of Lawrence King, a California eighth-grader who was shot and killed Feb. 12 by a classmate because of his sexual orientation and gender expression. Hundreds of thousands of students will come together on April 25 to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior." (www.dayofsilence.org) There is a table in the McFarland Student Union with more information and buttons. Join us for a candlelight vigil by the library at 4 p.m. today to break the silence.

Please contact allies@kutztown.edu with any questions.

Janine Knight, graduate assistant, GLBTQ Resource Center
