A tribute to poet and novelist Paul Laurence Dunbar

Dr. Herbert W. Martin, poet-in-residence and professor of English at the University of Dayton for more than 30 years, will feature the poems of nationally acclaimed poet and novelist Paul Laurence Dunbar. The event will be held in the Alumni Auditorium, McFarland Student Union, today from 5 to 7 p.m. An open microphone session will follow the presentation.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics General Meeting will be held today at 6 p.m. in the Curriculum Materials Center (downstairs in the library). The group will be discussing lesson plan ideas bridging math and literature and "The Greedy Triangle."

The University Curriculum Committee (UCC) will meet today at 11 a.m. in 312 McFarland Student Union to consider curricular proposals on its February agenda. Decision Makers Forum to Host Bill Bradley and Jeb Bush

 

At 4 p.m., Thursday, March 27, the Decision Makers Forum will host Bill Bradley, former U.S. Senator from New Jersey, and Jeb Bush, former Governor of Florida, at the Sovereign Bank Academic Session in Keystone Arena. 

These national political figures will participate in a question and answer session open to students, faculty, and staff. Join us for what promises to be an in-depth look at public policy and current U.S. politics as we enter the 2008 presidential election cycle. Your participation will help shape the content of this annual program, entering its 19th year. Admission is FREE for KU students, faculty and staff, and tickets are required. You can pick up tickets in the McFarland Student Union coat room at any of the following designated times:

Monday, March 3, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Tuesday, March 4, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Wednesday, March 5, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Limit two tickets per person with a valid KU ID.  Requests for additional tickets may be made at any of these times, or by contacting cocchiol@kutztown.edu or ext. 31394; and will be filled, depending on availability, after March 6.

The Phoenix Group, a student organization whose mission is to raise disability awareness, will be sponsoring  two events: a  Disability Discussion Panel on Wednesday, March 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. in 261 Boehm Science Building, and a Consciousness Raising Event  on Tuesday, March 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in 250 McFarland Student Union.  


The Early Learning Center will host its annual open house for fall enrollment on March 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. in 117 Rickenbach. Tour the school and learn about the preschool (part-day/full day) and kindergarten (full day) programs. Children are encouraged to attend.

Bears @ Nite: Libbie Schrader, Open Mic Night, and Late Night Breakfast

 

Bears @ Nite will host a fun-filled evening beginning at 9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 29 in the South Dining Hall. Libbie Schrader, a singer/songwriter, will perform.  An open mic will follow the performance. The event is open to all students. Students  may also use their meal plan card and receive a free late night breakfast.

FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) Workshop – All faculty, staff, and graduate assistants are invited to attend an informational workshop on FERPA requirements. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, known as FERPA, governs the release of student information to parties inside and outside of the university. It is imperative that all members of the university community are aware of how FERPA affects information that can be provided about students. Newer faculty and staff members, who may not have attended prior university-sponsored FERPA workshops, are especially encouraged to attend. The workshop will take place Tuesday, March 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in 250 McFarland Student Union. SPRING VISITATION DAY is Saturday, March 1. The Undergraduate Admissions Office is hosting the first Spring Visitation Day for accepted freshmen and transfer students for the Fall 2008 semester on Saturday, March 1.  Please join us in welcoming more than 750 visitors on this day.

Black Heritage Month Celebration: The blues is a form of African American folk music with a pattern that makes it adaptable to popular song writing. Blues lyrics tend to lament the trials and tribulations of living and loving. Created for a call and response pattern that is derived from African music, from Valade III, R.M., "The Essential Black Literature Guide, 1996."
