The Art of Wellness… 2008 Health and Wellness Expo

Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to participate in The Art of Wellness… 2008 Health and Wellness Expo on Tuesday, March 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of McFarland Student Union.  Featured will be "Earth Rhythms," awareness beading, chair massages, and 22 health promotion vendors.  We encourage you to experience the Community Drum Circle, an entry-level learning experience where participants express themselves collectively by using a chorus of assorted instruments and rhythms. Public Safety and Police Services is sponsoring a Rape, Aggression and Defense program (RAD) on March 3, 4 and 6 from 6 to 10 p.m. The program is FREE to all females. This is a three day class, and  the first two days are mandatory, the third day, March 6, is optional. Dress is casual (active wear) and bring a beverage to Georgian room. NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS


 

New blanket service contracts for chartered bus arrangements announced

 

Purchasing now has in place two blanket service contracts for chartered bus arrangements with two companies, Bieber Tourways (KUBB-0199) and Krapf Coaches (KUBB-0200). These service contracts were negotiated to assure that we have appropriate liability and other formal contractual coverage.

 

To streamline the bus reservation process, we request the following procedures be followed:

 

1. You may still directly contact the bus company to reserve the dates and particulars of the trip, however you are strongly encouraged to contact both companies to obtain best pricing and availability.

2. Upon receipt of the trip confirmation from the bus company, you must immediately issue the requisition in SAP to cover the costs of the trip. All bus trip requisitions are to be assigned to the purchasing group 454 (Anise Freeman), and must be issued prior to the event date.   

3. The bus company will issue a trip confirmation, however do not sign this sheet; please forward all confirmations to Purchasing, referencing the applicable requisition number.

4. Purchasing will convert requisitions to purchase orders to assure timely payments.

As a reminder to the university community, campus safety and security must be a joint effort between the university and all members of the our community.  Please take a minute to visit the Public Safety & Police Services Website at:  http://www.kutztown.edu/divisions/studentservices/departments/psps/ for information on services provided by the department including: 24 hour safety escorts, emergency telephone locations, Rape, Agression and Defence [RAD] programs, and other related services (see link for Special Services). Another valuable resource is the link to Crime Prevention and Safety Tips, which include sexual assault prevention, residence hall safety tips and vehicle safety. The 2008-09 applications for the Dr. Lawrence M. Stratton Scholarship are now available in the Financial Aid Office. Criteria: the applicant must earn 30 or more credits by the end of spring semester, must earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, and must demonstrate participation and leadership in KU campus activities. Applications must be received in the Financial Aid Office no later than April 30, 2008.

To all Faculty: Directions for entering mid-semester assessments:

I would like to encourage your assistance in completing Mid-Semester Assessments for Spring 2008. You may begin to evaluate your students through Profs Online beginning on Monday, Feb. 25 and all assessments should be completed by 4 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2008.  The information collected will be used to encourage student retention and is a required component of some of our student services programs.  If your evaluation indicates a need, it enables us to encourage students to use support services, such as tutoring, study skills enhancement, etc.  Even if a "Grade to Date" is not available, it is important to evaluate a student on as many areas as possible.

Reports will be available at the close of the assessment period. Advisors will also be able to display and review any reported progress information for his/her advisees. Below are the directions for entering and viewing Mid-Semester Assessments. Thank you for your cooperation.

Directions for entering mid-semester assessments: 

Entering assessments is similar to entering grades.       

  1. If you already have a “Profs Online” account skip to 2.

 

To create an account:

 

a. Go to the www.kutztown.edu (KU’s home page).

b. Click the link on the left menu titled “For Faculty and Staff”.

c. Click the link on the left menu titled   “Profs Online”

d. Click Login.

e. Click “Create an Account”.

f.  Follow the step by step instructions.

 

  1. Log into “Profs Online” using your user code and password.

  2. Click the link on the left menu titled “Mainframe”.

  3. Click on the link titled “Enter Assessments”

  4. Select a class for your list of courses for the semester.

  5. Follow the instructions to enter assessments for that course.

How to extract data from mid-semester assessments:

Assessment reports become available at the close of the assessment period (up to and including the date designated as mid semester for the term in question).  

1.  Follow steps 1 through 3 listed above.

2.  Click the link titled “Assessment Reports”.

3.  Follow the report selection directions. 

4.  If you have questions about the reports or customizing the reports, please contact Joe Mumbauer at ext. 3-1570.

Bears @ Nite will host a fun-filled evening beginning at 9 p.m., today in the South Dining Hall. Libbie Schrader, a singer/songwriter, will perform.  An open mic will follow the performance. The event is open to all students. Students  may also use their meal plan card and receive a free late night breakfast.

FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) Workshop – All faculty, staff, and graduate assistants are invited to attend an informational workshop on FERPA requirements. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, known as FERPA, governs the release of student information to parties inside and outside of the university. It is imperative that all members of the university community are aware of how FERPA affects information that can be provided about students. Newer faculty and staff members, who may not have attended prior university-sponsored FERPA workshops, are especially encouraged to attend. The workshop will take place Tuesday, March 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in 250 McFarland Student Union. Decision Makers Forum to Host Bill Bradley and Jeb Bush

 

At 4 p.m., Thursday, March 27, the Decision Makers Forum will host Bill Bradley, former U.S. Senator from New Jersey, and Jeb Bush, former Governor of Florida, at the Sovereign Bank Academic Session in Keystone Arena. 

These national political figures will participate in a question and answer session open to students, faculty, and staff. Join us for what promises to be an in-depth look at public policy and current U.S. politics as we enter the 2008 presidential election cycle. Your participation will help shape the content of this annual program, entering its 19th year. Admission is FREE for KU students, faculty and staff, and tickets are required. You can pick up tickets in the McFarland Student Union coat room at any of the following designated times:

Tuesday, March 4, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
