A reminder to parents and students: begin filing your 2008-09 FAFSA after Jan. 1. Kutztown University’s priority filing deadline is Feb. 15. Avoid missing critical deadlines by filing your FAFSA by our priority filing deadline.

File on the official Website at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Renewal FAFSA applications for 2008-09 will also be available on the Website after Jan. 1. To file online, the student and parent each need a PIN number which serves as the electronic signature for the FAFSA. If you filed online previously, you can use the U.S. Dept of Education assigned pin number. If this is your first time filing electronically, file for the assigned pin number at www.pin.ed.gov. We recommend that you keep the pin number in a safe place to use for subsequent academic years. The FAFSA worksheet will be available after Jan. 1 to provide guidance in completing the FAFSA. This does not take the place of filing the actual FAFSA.

Beginning this year, the FAFSA application in paper format is available only by calling the Federal Processing Center at 1-800-433-3243. Financial Aid Services will no longer have a supply of paper applications.

For additional questions on filing the FAFSA, contact Financial Aid Services at 610-683-4077 or by e-mail at financialaid@kutztown.edu

THE OVERSPENT AMERICAN: WHY WE WANT WHAT WE DON’T NEED - Scrutinizes the “new consumerism”  -- a national phenomenon of upscale spending shaped by media and driven by commercial interests.

MILITAINMENT - Discusses the militarization of American popular culture through video games, the U.S. news resembling Hollywood films, and reality television.  The film asks, “How has war taken its place in the culture as an entertainment spectacle?”

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION: RESISTANCE & REPRESSION IN THE AGE OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY - Explores the battles being waged in courts, classrooms, museums, film studios, and the Internet over control of our cultural commons by overzealous copyright holders.

The on-campus deadline for submitting proposals to the PASSHE Faculty Professional Development Annual Grants program has come and gone with only five proposals submitted for consideration.  KU can actually submit up to 12 proposals to PASSHE for review!

The on-campus deadline is now extended to Jan. 30 to see if we can generate additional interest. In part, we want to see KU well represented at the state level where the grants are reviewed, but even more important is the opportunity for more KU faculty to continue their scholarly work with grant funding for summer salary and/or necessary travel or supplies.

Probationary faculty are particularly encouraged to apply as an additional $50,000 has been set aside to fund projects just for you. If you have a project idea, but just didn’t quite get the proposal done over the break, see if you can find a day or two before the end of the month to get something together.

A copy of the guidelines are located on the KU Professional Development Committee site at http://www.kutztown.edu/acad/graduate/grants/professional.shtml
