EVENTS

Mathematics Department Colloquium - Jan. 29 at 3:30 p.m. in 103 Academic Forum

Dr. Amy Lu will speak, "On Reducts of Countably Categorical Graphs."

Model theory is the branch of logic studying mathematical structures by considering first-order sentences which are true of those structures and the sets which are definable in those structures by first-order formulas. Model theory, algebra and graph theory are often closely related.

In this talk, Dr. Lu will describe classifications of reducts given by Higman, Thomas, and Bennett. She will also present her own results classifying reducts of the random bipartite graph and the random bipartite graph having more than two cross types.

Refreshments will be served from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Kutztown University Radio has been made aware of a scam going around in which an unknown person is making calls to people, particularly in the Lehigh Valley area, and asking them to participate in a cash giveaway if a few questions are answered or a challenge is taken. KUR would like to once again inform the public that no such station-sponsored event is occurring, and we are attempting to trace the source of these calls with the help of campus police. If you, or anyone you know, receives such a call, we encourage you to direct your concerns to your local police department and to Kutztown University Radio at (610)-683-4059.

A reminder to parents and students: begin filing your 2008-09 FAFSA after Jan. 1. Kutztown University’s priority filing deadline is Feb. 15. Avoid missing critical deadlines by filing your FAFSA by our priority filing deadline.

File on the official Website at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Renewal FAFSA applications for 2008-09 will also be available on the Website after Jan. 1. To file online, the student and parent each need a PIN number which serves as the electronic signature for the FAFSA. If you filed online previously, you can use the U.S. Dept of Education assigned pin number. If this is your first time filing electronically, file for the assigned pin number at www.pin.ed.gov. We recommend that you keep the pin number in a safe place to use for subsequent academic years. The FAFSA worksheet will be available after Jan. 1 to provide guidance in completing the FAFSA. This does not take the place of filing the actual FAFSA.

Beginning this year, the FAFSA application in paper format is available only by calling the Federal Processing Center at 1-800-433-3243. Financial Aid Services will no longer have a supply of paper applications.

For additional questions on filing the FAFSA, contact Financial Aid Services at 610-683-4077 or by e-mail at financialaid@kutztown.edu
