Hazing in View: College Students at Risk
On Tuesday, March 11, Dr. Elizabeth Allan, assistant professor of Higher Educational Leadership at the University of Maine, released the initial results of her national, multi-year study, "Examining and Transforming Campus Hazing Cultures."
This initial study takes a look at various organized groups on a college campus. Groups included are varsity athletic teams, social fraternities and sororities, club sports, performing arts organizations (marching bands and theater groups), service fraternities and sororities, intramural teams, recreation clubs, military groups, academic clubs, honor societies, etc.
In a series of reports that will be published from her investigation, Dr. Allan will examine a more in-depth look at recommendations for hazing prevention, hazing within particular types of student groups, and regional and institutional-type comparisons of student hazing.
The complete initial report of the study is available at http://www.hazingstudy.org/.
