CHAMBLISS FACULTY LECTURE SERIES

The Chambliss Faculty Research Award address will be presented at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in Boehm Science Building 261.  Dr. Edward L. Simpson, Chairperson and Professor of Physical Sciences, will highlight his recent work in southern Utah and present “The Dinosaur Shake Rattle and Roll.”  Dr. Simpson will discuss the reconstruction and location of earthquakes that shook, rattled, and rolled these giants during the Cretaceous.  Open to the public.

The Kutztown University Council for Exceptional Children invites all interested faculty, staff, and students to attend the CEC meeting today at 5 p.m. in 218 Beekey. There will be a guest speaker and nominations for CEC officer positions for the 2008-2009 academic year. In addition, there will be an opportunity to participate in the Cystic Fibrosis walk at KU which will count toward "strive for five" points. CEC T-shirts will be available at a cost of $8 each.

“FrenchConnection@KU” will meet on Tuesday, March 18, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Thursday, March 20, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., in the Bear's Den of the McFarland Student Union. All French speakers on campus, who are interested in practicing their conversation skills at any level in a relaxed and friendly setting, are cordially invited.

Professor Mackesy, Department of Academic Enrichment, will lead a workshop on Critical Reading Strategies that promote success in the classroom. This workshop is designed to assist students be more effective readers. This workshop is geared toward students who have difficulty staying focused when reading their textbooks or who have a hard time picking out the main points of their reading. All are welcome. The workshop is scheduled for today from 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. in 113 Beekey Building.

The Provost’s Office is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. William Dempsey as Dean, College of Business. Dr. Dempsey will assume his position at Kutztown University on June 8, 2008.

Dr. Dempsey has most recently served as professor of marketing and the Dean of the College of Business and Economics at Radford University (RU), a Commonwealth of Virginia institution. Prior to that he was a professor of marketing and Dean of the School of Business Administration (SBA) at Monmouth University in New Jersey; Chair, Department of Marketing, Temple University; Visiting Professor of Marketing, Graduate School of Engineering, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Assistant and Associate Professor of Marketing, Temple University; Assistant Professor of Business Administration, East Carolina University; Instructor, Business Administration, University of Maryland; Research Assistant, University of Maryland; and a Cost Analyst, Ford Motor Company, Dearborn, MI.

Dr. Dempsey has also been a Chair, advisor, and member of a number of AACSB accreditation peer review teams since 1999; President, Mid-Atlantic Association of Colleges of Business Administration and President, Philadelphia Chapter of the American Marketing Association.

Dr. Dempsey received his D.B.A. in Marketing and his M.B.A. from the University of Maryland, and his B.E.S., Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from The Johns Hopkins University.

Please join Allies and the GLBTQ Resource Center on Tuesday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in 200 Academic Forum for "CHALLENGING ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT GENDER AND SEXUALITY: A Conversation with Dr. Carol Queen." Queen is a writer, speaker, educator, and activist with a doctorate in sexology.  As an organizer in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities, Queen teaches and writes her own experiences while referencing academic thought on these subjects. She will be joined by students, faculty, and KU staff in a frank and open discussion.

Career Services would like to announce the 2008 Internship and Job Fairs that will be held on-campus in the Multi-purpose Room of the McFarland Student Union Building. The Careers in Business Fair will be held on March 19, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This will highlight employers who are for-profit businesses. Many of these employers are looking for any major. The Careers in Government and Human Services Fair will be held on March 20, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This fair will highlight employers from the non-profit, human service and government areas. Public Safety and Police Services is sponsoring a Rape, Aggression, and Defense program (RAD). It is a three-day class in which the first two dates are mandatory and the third date is optional.
