NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS


The College of Graduate Studies is sponsoring an open house today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in 223 McFarland Student Union Building. 


Attention all faculty participating in May commencement ceremonies - Academic attire is required for all personnel who plan to march in the processions. In keeping with KU pride, the university will provide maroon rental attire to all personnel needing to rent their regalia. Regalia may be rented by calling Amanda Bausher at ext. 3-4044 or by e-mailing her at bausher@kutztown.edu no later than April 1. 


The Spring Graduation Festival is next week!  KUSSI is sponsoring the Spring 2008 Graduation Festival on March 25 and 26 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the McFarland Student Union. All May graduates must attend this “one-stop shop” to purchase caps and gowns, receive graduation tickets, and much more! Please encourage all graduating seniors to attend. For more information, contact Matt Lowther at ext. 3-4090.


Auditions for "Just Wilde About Haring," a new play by Dr. Deryl Johnson, are taking place. The roles needed are: Oscar Wilde, Keith Haring, and Kay Haring. There are also several crew positions available. Scripts are available in the GLBTQ Resource Center and the Department of Speech Communication & Theatre.  Auditions are by appointment only. Please call 484-646-4111 for additional information and to schedule an audition. The rehearsal schedule is flexible and will begin March 30. The production dates are: May 1,2, and 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Rickenbach Theatre, and there is a possibility of New York performances.

Kutztown University College Bowl

On March 31 at 7 p.m., the university will host the first KU student College Bowl. Create a team of five and come to the Student Union and Involvement Services office, across from the bookstore, by March 21 to sign-up. The event will be held in the McFarland Student Union Multi-Purpose Room, and is open to the public. 

Bears @ Nite – Free Haircuts and Massages

Come to the Formal Dining Room in the McFarland Student Union on Friday, March 28, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. to receive a free haircut and massage from licensed professionals. This fun event will give you a chance to cut away the winter baggage and gear up for spring.

Middle States Decennial Accreditation - Update

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to an information session on Thursday, March 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in MSU157b (first floor).  Members of the Middle States Steering Committee will answer questions about the self-study process, Self-Study Report, evidence room, Middle States accreditation, and the upcoming evaluation team site visit scheduled for Sunday, March 30, through Wednesday, April 2.

Dr. Ronnie Hsia, the Edwin Earle Sparks Professor of History at the Pennsylvania State University, will deliver the Kutztown University Department of History's Esther M. Willits Lecture on Monday, March 24, at 7 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union Building Alumni Auditorium. Hsia's presentation is "Between Empires: The Beginnings of the Jesuit Mission in Late 16th Century China."  The lecture is free and open to the public. 

Rosie Perez, actress, director, choreographer, and activist to speak at Kutztown

Please pick up your tickets and join us for a discussion by Rosie Perez on Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. in Schaeffer Auditorium. The program is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Stop by the McFarland Student Union Information Desk for a ticket. Her presentation, “Women As Activists,” is in celebration of Women’s History Month. Perez is a strong activist for AIDS Awareness and youth programs. Her film credits include, “Do the Right Thing,” “White Men Can’t Jump,” “Fearless,” “It Could Happen to You,” “The Take,” and “Yo Soy Boricua Pa’que Tu Lo Sepas!”

CHAMBLISS FACULTY LECTURE SERIES

The Chambliss Faculty Research Award address will be presented at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in Boehm Science Building 261.  Dr. Edward L. Simpson, Chairperson and Professor of Physical Sciences, will highlight his recent work in southern Utah and present “The Dinosaur Shake Rattle and Roll.”  Dr. Simpson will discuss the reconstruction and location of earthquakes that shook, rattled, and rolled these giants during the Cretaceous.  Open to the public.

Theta Phi Alpha Sorority will host the first annual Theta Phi Alpha Classic 3x3 Men's Basketball Tournament on Sunday, April 27, in the Keystone Fieldhouse. A portion of all proceeds will benefit the Kyle Quinn Scholarship Fund at William Tennent High School. Registration forms are due by April 1. For more information or to obtain a registration form, please e-mail gammagamma@thetaphialpha.org

Greek Awards Application Packet Now Available Online

Fraternities and sororities were founded to support the academic mission, vision, and values of the host institution where a chapter is recognized. In support of this standard, all chapter-based awards will be selected based upon their submission of a maximum five-page essay on how the fraternity/sorority has supported the mission, vision, and core values of Kutztown University throughout the year focusing on the areas of service to campus, new member development, scholarship, web page/public relations, inter-fraternalism, creative programming, community service, diversity programming, and living the values of the organization. 

You are invited to submit nominations for individual member awards. Application packets for both chapter-based and individual award nominations are now available online. All nominations are due back to the Office of Student Union & Involvement Services on or before Friday, April 4, by 4:30 p.m. in 153 McFarland Student Union.  No nominations will be accepted after this date and time. All award nominations must be typed. Application packets are available here or on the resources page of the Greek Life Services Website.
