 Cinco de Mayo

Cinco De Mayo, Spanish for “The 5th of May” is a Mexican national holiday and it is celebrated in the United States among the Mexican-American population to commemorate the overthrow of the Mexican Monarchy ruled by the French/Austrians and Mexican conservatives. On May 5, 1862, the Mexicans had won the battle, but not the war. Yet, this date was established as symbolic of the Mexicans' courage against a formidable army. The victory demonstrated to ordinary Mexican citizens that they could repel superior fighting power. It instilled national pride, and discouraged further American and European invasions of Mexico and Latin America. In the United States of America, the celebration is more festive consisting of parades, music, folklore, dances and food. These festivities are mainly fund raising events and for solidarity among the Mexican-Americans.

“A generation gap according to many sources is a term used to describe wide differences in cultural norms between members of a younger generation and their elders. This can be defined as occurring "when older and younger people do not understand each other because of their different experiences, opinions, habits and behavior." Come and join us to celebrate with deeper understanding this "melting pot" of different kinds of people, fads, fashion, and politics,  reflected in attitudes about each generation's interpretation on life.”
