Construction Update:
There will be a campus wide electrical shutdown starting at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30 to perform maintenance on the substation. This shutdown will affect all buildings on campus, and is expected to last two hours. At that time, the buildings will be returned to service, with the exception of the following: Beck Hall, Deatrick Hall, Stratton Administration Center (new section closest to Main Street) and the Heat Plant (old), including the Garage. Those buildings will be returned to service by 4 p.m. Please be sure to turn off your computers and other electrical devices by close of business on Tuesday, Dec. 29. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Facilities Work Control Center at ext. 3-1594.

The Communication Design Department would like to congratulate Brian Folchetti, Catherine Groya, Christine Marrone, Geronimo Santillan, Emily Shellenberger, Shelby Schena, Laura Teklits and Shani Tucker. Their Power vs. Poverty poster entries were selected to appear in a gallery exhibition in Skopje, Macedonia. Hundreds of university students from around the world participated in this competition and only 105 were selected. Catherine Groya represents Kutztown University as one of the top ten competition winners with an honorable mention.

Power vs. Poverty Poster Exhibition.
The Communication Design Department invites you to an exhibit of select entries, representing work submitted by KUCD Graphic Design 1 courses to the Second International Student Poster Competition in Skopje, Macedonia. The exhibit is in Sharadin Student Gallery until Dec. 13 and is open during the day. (The student gallery 207 Sharadin is to the immediate left of the main gallery doors.) Free H1N1 vaccine for KU students.  KU Clinical Services will be offering free H1N1 immunizations to KU students today from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Health Center, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union Room 250, Dec. 10 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Health Center.  The Centers for Disease Control has identified the following groups for receiving the H1N1 Flu Vaccination:

·         Students who are currently pregnant (authorization from obstetrician required)

·         Students under age 24

·         Students who are parents or caregivers for children under six months of age

·         Students under the age of 65 with certain underlying medical conditions

Note: Students who are minors will need parental permission.  Consent form can be downloaded from the Web site clinical.dept.kutztown.edu all consent forms can be faxed 484-646-4159.

KU to UK. Consider summer study in England with the KU Study Abroad program in London, England,  June 21- July 4, 2010, Courses will be taught in 75-minute lessons in the mornings, leaving afternoons for class field trips, faculty-supervised touring, or independent travel.  All of the courses in this program are taught by KU faculty. The Community Outreach Center is joining the Friends, Inc. Annual Christmas Cheer Campaign. Through Dec. 15, we will hold our holiday food box collection for Friends, Inc. We would like your office to join us in providing food donations to help families in need. Our goal for KU is to complete 75 boxes of 150 total. 

 

All you need to do is to create a food box that includes the following items:

All boxes may be wrapped with Christmas wrapping around the outside of box – please do not wrap the top. (Simply fold down the flaps or use a “copy paper” box with removable lid). Please label it with “Kutztown University and the name of your office.”

 
All boxes may be dropped off at the Community Outreach center in room 281 McFarland Student Union. Arrangements can be made for them to be picked up if needed.  Please email Jasmine Escobar at jesco853@live.kutztown.edu or call the office at ext. 6-4127 if you have any questions.

Interested Faculty – director, GLBTQ Resource Center. The director position for the GLBTQ Resource Center is open for application.  The position is ¼ reassigned time with the responsibility for center leadership, administration, and management as well as programmatic and service operations.  The position requires experience with administrative procedures, university processes, protocols, and supervision.  Knowledge of the historic and current trends, a commitment to and record of advocacy relevant to the GLBTQ issues and concerns is essential.  This position begins Spring 2010 starting in January and is renewable annually at the discretion of the university president or his designee.  Summer hours will be required. 

A position description is available at the Division of Human Diversity & Inclusion office, located in 215 Stratton Administration Building.  Please send letter of interest outlining your qualifications and experience with the GLBTQ population, a letter of support from your department chair, and your curriculum vitae to Professor Bruce Gottschall, search committee chair, Rohrbach Library, by 3 p.m. Dec. 11.

Tuna de la Universidad de Puerto Rico. The Office of Community Engagement & Government Affairs and the Multicultural Center invite you to enjoy  an unique performances by the musical group Tuna de la Universidad de Puerto Rico. Tuna is a musical group with the traditional instruments of the “Rondallas” from the XVI century in the Universities in Europe and specifically Spain.  This group was founded in 1961  and it is  the best  traditional and cultural representation of the Puerto Rican Holidays celebrations. The group continues the tradition of serenading, harmonizing vocals, guitars, mandolins, lutes, treble, bordonúa, tambourines and castanets to provide a colorful  performance to the audience.  La Tuna has  a successful track record of achievements  such as being the First Joint Tuna in Puerto Rico, in America and worldwide, as well as one of the oldest in Latin America. La Tuna will perform  on Wednesday , December 9th at 10:30 am in McFarland Student Union  Ben’s Café,  and 11:30 a.m. in the Bear’s Golden Food Court. Thursday, Dec. 10 they perform at 6:30 p.m. in Dixon Hall and  the final performance  will be on Friday, Dec. 11 at 12 noon in Schaeffer Auditorium.

The KU Orchestra under the direction of Willis Rapp in collaboration with Marilyn’s School of Dance combine to present a fully-staged performance of Tchaikovsky’s beloved seasonal ballet. Human Rights Day in Pennsylvania panel discussion.
The GLBTQ Resource Center is hosting a Human Rights Day in Pennsylvania panel discussion, “Looking Back, Looking Forward,”  on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m., in 218 McFarland Student Union. The panelists include: Jacqueline Conforti Barnett, special assistant to the PASSHE Chancellor; Stephen A. Glassman, chairperson of the PA Human Relations Commission; and Barbara M. Taliaferro, KU associate vice president for Diversity and Inclusion.  The panelists will discuss human rights past, present and future from different perspectives.  This will be an opportunity to hear about the strides that have been made and the work yet to be done.  All are invited to this free event.
