H1N1 Vaccine.
The health center will be offering the H1N1 vaccine to all staff and faculty on Thursday, Dec. 17 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Health and Wellness Center (enter through side entrance for Clinical Services). Please call ext. 3-4646 if you have questions.

The Student Recreation Center and Keystone Hall Swimming Pool will be operating under special hours during finals week.  Group exercise classes only Monday-Wednesday.

It’s been 10 years since jazz legend Grover Washington, Jr. passed away suddenly.
To celebrate the life and memory of Mr. Washington, Jr., the 2010 Berks Jazz Fest is hosting a special, pre-fest holiday concert in honor of Grover Washington, Jr. this Friday night, Dec. 11 at the Miller Center for the Arts in Reading! Tune in today to Kutztown University Radio (KUR) between 10 and 11 a.m., and then again at 1 p.m., if any are left, for a chance to win pairs of tickets to this amazing concert! Interested Faculty – director, GLBTQ Resource Center. The director position for the GLBTQ Resource Center is open for application.  The position is ¼ reassigned time with the responsibility for center leadership, administration, and management as well as programmatic and service operations.  The position requires experience with administrative procedures, university processes, protocols, and supervision.  Knowledge of the historic and current trends, a commitment to and record of advocacy relevant to the GLBTQ issues and concerns is essential.  This position begins Spring 2010 starting in January and is renewable annually at the discretion of the university president or his designee.  Summer hours will be required. 

A position description is available at the Division of Human Diversity & Inclusion office, located in 215 Stratton Administration Building.  Please send letter of interest outlining your qualifications and experience with the GLBTQ population, a letter of support from your department chair, and your curriculum vitae to Professor Bruce Gottschall, search committee chair, Rohrbach Library, by 3 p.m. Dec. 11.

Free H1N1 vaccine for KU students.  KU Clinical Services will be offering free H1N1 immunizations to KU students today in the Health Center.  The Centers for Disease Control has identified the following groups for receiving the H1N1 Flu Vaccination:

·         Students who are currently pregnant (authorization from obstetrician required)

·         Students under age 24

·         Students who are parents or caregivers for children under six months of age

·         Students under the age of 65 with certain underlying medical conditions

Note: Students who are minors will need parental permission.  Consent form can be downloaded from the Web site clinical.dept.kutztown.edu all consent forms can be faxed 484-646-4159.

The Kutztown University Academic Achievement Awards are presented to a select group of senior students who have achieved exceptional individual achievements in specified areas. The awards were established through a generous gift provided by Dr. Carlson R. Chambliss, who served as a member of the Kutztown University faculty from 1970 until 2003.  

 

Faculty and staff at KU are strongly encouraged to nominate students worthy of consideration for this prestigious award. The areas of individual achievement are: 

        a) Successfully completed research projects.

        b) Original artwork of high quality.

        c) Artistic performances (music, chorus, drama, etc) of high quality.

        d) Original writing in literature or meritorious writing in other fields.

        e) Noteworthy achievements in athletics.

        f) Outstanding service to the Kutztown University community.

Holiday Marketplace – Basket of Holiday Treasures.
On behalf of Off Campus Student Life/OCAC and KUBoK, I would like to extend a sincere thank you and deepest appreciation to the following individuals and departments for their assistance and generosity in their creations of this year’s Baskets of Holiday Treasures! Every basket was extremely well done, filled many wonderful temptations and surprises. Every basket was a winner!   All the recipients were thrilled with their treasures and KUBoK was delighted with the support shown for the organization’s efforts – a volunteer coalition of community residents and KU students, faculty, administrators and staff, working together to maintain a safe and friendly community.

Human Rights Day in Pennsylvania panel discussion.
The GLBTQ Resource Center is hosting a Human Rights Day in Pennsylvania panel discussion, “Looking Back, Looking Forward,”  today at 11 a.m., in 218 McFarland Student Union. The panelists include: Jacqueline Conforti Barnett, special assistant to the PASSHE Chancellor; Stephen A. Glassman, chairperson of the PA Human Relations Commission; and Barbara M. Taliaferro, KU associate vice president for Diversity and Inclusion.  The panelists will discuss human rights past, present and future from different perspectives.  This will be an opportunity to hear about the strides that have been made and the work yet to be done.  All are invited to this free event.



This week's McFarland Student Union Movie Series film, "National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation," will be shown in the McFarland Student Union Alumni Auditorium tonight and Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 and 8 p.m.
