Announcements
Tune in to Kutztown University Radio Tuesday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. for a special, rare original summer edition of “The Diversity Rest Stop” radio program. Today, Mike Regensburger sits down with Ginny Hand, a representative from fellow Berks County college Alvernia University to discuss a rare and special non-profit exhibit at the school called “The Blessing Exhibit,” honoring the life of the late Pope John Paul II and his interaction with not only Catholics but also Jewish and other religions. It’s more than just religion, but also a lesson in history, as well. The exhibit goes from now until the end of July and Mike speaks with Ginny to learn how Alvernia garnered the exhibit and the meaning of it. You can listen online or learn of all the ways to listen at our Web site http://kur.kutztown.edu/

Fire Alarm Testing. Today marks the beginning of the annual fire alarm system testing period. Representatives from Simplex Grinnell will begin in the residence halls. Work in academic buildings will be conducted on Fridays to avoid summer class schedules. Every effort will be made to notify building occupants in advance of tests, but the schedule is subject to many variations, and cannot be planned. Please accept this temporary inconvenience in exchange for confidence in the system’s functionality. These tests may run through the end of June, if necessary.
Mark W. Hostetter, Fire Safety Technician
Fire Alarm Design Work. Starting today, representatives from Brinjac Engineering will be on campus to conduct engineering surveys as part of a design effort to upgrade the fire alarm systems in five campus buildings. This work may span several days, requiring the engineering representatives to investigate each space in the building to determine the level of fire alarm detection and voice communication capability required to meet codes.
The disruption related to this work should be minimal, as the engineering representative(s) will briefly look inside the spaces to record information they will use to determine equipment requirements. If the engineer is unable to access a space in your area, we would appreciate assistance from a staff member to help them gather the information needed. Your cooperation is certainly appreciated.
Buildings that are included in this survey work are: Stratton Administration Center, Beekey Education Building, Lytle Hall, Keystone Hall and South Dining Hall. Questions may directed to either firesafety@kutztown.edu or helms@kutztown.edu.
Stephen Helms, director, Environmental, Health and Safety
