College of Visual and Performing Arts Faculty First Thursday:  Jay Baglia, assistant professor, Speech & Theatre Department, will present “Beyond Conception:  (In)fertility & the New Reproductive Technologies in the News” on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. in Sharadin 120.  The paper upon which this presentation is based is a discourse analysis of over 75 lengthy news stories which include fertility as a major theme.  In this analysis he discovered five themes:  emotion, economics, metaphors of luck and chance, God, and biological destiny.  All are welcome!

Design a Basket of Holiday Treasures:  
There is still time to put your creative talents to work! Design a cornucopia of holiday treasures for the Holiday Marketplace, Thursday, Dec. 2 from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. These holiday treasures will be on display as part of the day’s activities. The proceeds raised will be used to support our KUBoK (Kutztown University and Borough of Kutztown) Neighborhood Watch.

Anyone can participate - staff, faculty, departments, clubs and organizations. Do it individually or as a group.  Be as creative as you like and as non-traditional as you want it to be!  You can base it around a theme, a hobby, sporting team, or anything that comes to mind.

Resource Center or Allies during their college career at Kutztown University. The Lavender Graduates celebration will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the GLBTQ Resource Center, OM 4. Belsnickel to spread joy at Christmas on the Farm this Saturday -  Join us this Saturday, Dec. 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center (PGCHG) for “Christmas on the Farm.” This free event shares the many holiday traditions of the Pennsylvania German culture. There will be various activities for children such as visiting with farm animals, cookie decorating, pinecone bird feeder making, and much more! And Belsnickel, the Pennsylvania German counterpart to St. Nick, will visit with the children in the schoolhouse, making certain that they’re on their best behavior.

The Community Outreach Center (COC) would like to offer everyone an opportunity to sponsor an underprivileged COUL kid for the holidays. $5 will provide a holiday gift to each child from the Berks County Big Brothers/ Big Sisters Agency. The Community Outreach Center is collecting gift card donations for the forgotten teens at the Olivet Boys and Girls Club in Reading. Gift cards should be for small amounts for stores like Walmart, Target or Kmart. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated. Donations can be dropped off in the Community Outreach Center, MSU 281. Please identify dollar amount somewhere on the gift card. Donations accepted until Dec. 10.  Please help make this holiday special for a teen!

Thursday: Sweet and sour pork, vegetarian black beans and peppers, island rice, sesame vegetables, and ginger honey carrots. Soups of the day are turkey rice and cream of broccoli. 

Friday: Hand breaded chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, steak fries, stewed tomatoes and sautéed green beans with dill. Soups of the day are Manhattan clam chowder and cream of tomato.

Get Your Flu Shot - Clinical Services will be holding two influenza immunization clinics in the Wellness Center. Students can receive the influenza vaccine today or next Wednesday, Dec. 8. Flu clinic hours will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days.  The cost is $10 which will be billed to your student account. Please bring your KU student ID.

Join OCAC help the elderly and disabled residents of Kutztown when it snows. Blue Man Group tickets - Let your students know that ACE is sponsoring a bus trip to see Blue Man Group in NYC. Tickets are now on sale in MSU 153 for KU students.  The trip is on Saturday, Dec. 4 and the bus leaves KU at 9 a.m. from the MSU parking lot.  The cost is $45 for KU students (with valid ID) and includes front row seats to the show and round trip bus transportation to NYC. Non-KU student tickets (if any remain) are available for purchase in MSU 153 for $95.  Cash or check are the accepted forms of payment. 


Non-Instructional Staff Holiday Luncheon - Please join the Bursar’s Office to celebrate birthdays and the holiday season on Tuesday, Dec. 7.  We are very pleased to announce the reduced cost this year of $8.50 a person for the hot and cold all-you-can-eat buffet. Please complete your invitation and return with payment to the Bursar’s Office by today.

WANTED!  Kutztown University Council of Trustees is searching for a new Student Trustee. You are qualified if you are a full-time undergraduate student and have completed 32 or more credits by the beginning of the 2011 Fall Semester, are in good standing and have a GPA of at least a 2.5, and will graduate no sooner than May of 2013. The Council of Trustees, the governing body of the University, is composed of an eleven-member board, one of whom is an undergraduate student. The Student Trustee is a full voting member of the Council. You can download the applications from KU’s webpage at http://www.kutztown.edu/student-trustee-search.shtml; and are also available in the President’s Office, at the Information Desk in the Student Union Building, in the Residence Halls and in the Rohrbach Library.
