KU College of Business Continues Pursuit of AACSB Accreditation
Last month, the KU Council of Trustees reaffirmed the strategic goal for Kutztown University to earn and maintain accreditation from The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This accreditation validates that a university’s business degree programs are of high quality and are subject to continuous improvement.
AACSB accreditation standards, guidelines, and procedures give the KU College of Business a roadmap to follow for designing and adjusting its strategic planning, faculty development, curricula, and student learning processes that guarantee high-quality educational outcomes.
Attaining accreditation for the College of Business puts KU in a stronger position to compete for and retain students, faculty, commonwealth support, private funding and employers for its graduates. This is especially important today in an increasingly competitive higher education marketplace.
As a part of its accreditation plan, the KU College of Business has reorganized effective this month. This reorganization is a key element of our accreditation plan, which must be submitted to the AACSB by April 15. Through this restructuring, KU must definitively show how accreditation expectations for scholarly growth and faculty credentials will be met at the university by the beginning of 2013-14.
The four former KU College of Business departments of Accounting and Finance, Economics, Management, and Marketing have been restructured into two new departments --- the Department of Business Administration, which is now in charge of the BSBA and MBA programs, and the Department of Professional Studies which will support the business programs and develop courses that meet the needs of other KU students.
Details on the two new departments are found on the university’s Web site for the College of Business at http://www.kutztown.edu/academics/business/directory/

As most of you are aware, Barbara Taliaferro, Associate Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion, retired in late December. As a result, the reporting structure for our Human Diversity offices has been realigned. Effective January 2, 2010, Multicultural Services, the Women’s Center and the GLBTQ Center will report to the Division of Student Services and Campus Life. Vice President Chick Woodard will establish a transition team to develop and recommend a “best fit” for these units within the division. On an interim basis, these units will report to Dr. Andrea Kirshman, Assistant Vice President for New Student Programs and Services. Our ADA office will report to the Office of Social Equity under the guidance of Jesus Peņa, Associate Vice President for Equity and Compliance. We believe this overall realignment will best serve our students, faculty and staff as we move forward, while allowing us to maintain the quality established by Human Diversity in the past.
