Announcements

STRATTON LOT TO HAVE LIMITED ACCESS TOMORROW, April 27; ENTERPRISE RENTAL CARS TO BE RELOCATED FOR THE DAY -

As a part of KU’s commitment to the community, we will be hosting the Berks County Special Olympics tomorrow. The F-1 parking Lot (behind Stratton Administration Center) and the F-4 Lot (between University Field and the old heating plant) will have limited access in an effort to accommodate the buses transporting the Special Olympics participants to University Field. Faculty and staff who normally park in F-1 or F-4 will have the option of parking in A-2 (near Beekey Education Building) and riding the shuttle to Stratton, or parking in any other faculty/staff space and walking. The shuttle stop at lot A-2 will be clearly marked along College Boulevard. The first shuttle loop begins at 7 a.m. The shuttle will also run in the afternoon from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. to return employees to the A-2 lot. The parking spots in F-1 closest to the Stratton Building (currently handicapped and 30-minute parking) will be reserved for KU employee handicapped parking and for daily business purposes only.

In addition all Enterprise rental cars scheduled for pick-up tomorrow will be relocated and can be picked up at the north campus location (Academic Forum).  If you are dropping off cars today, you may still drop them off at the south campus location (parking lot F-4).  Any cars being returned tomorrow before 4 p.m. should be dropped off at the north campus location – any cars being dropped off after 4 p.m. can be returned to the south campus location.

We ask that all employees please be aware of this event and plan accordingly.   We truly appreciate your cooperation in helping our university support such a worthy cause.   Any questions feel free to contact my office.  Thanks again for your support.

Terry Sitler, director, Conference Services

Congratulations to Dr. Jacob Sewall, Department of Physical Sciences, who co-authored with Dr. Mark Clementz of the University of Wyoming, a paper published in the prestigious journal Science that could change the understanding of the climate during Eocene period, a time of dramatic change and the emergence of the first modern mammals. Sewall and Clementz simulated Eocene climates with powerful computers and studied the fossils of ancient sirenians, the family of sea cows that includes the modern manatee and dugong, to challenge popular assumptions about the temperature and composition of the seawater during that period. For more on their research go to:  http://www.kutztown.edu/admin/urelations/mediarelations/1104/sewall.shtml

Summer Hours – As in past years, the University will initiate summer hours beginning May 9, the Monday following Commencement.  These hours will remain in effect through Friday, August 26.  Summer hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a half-hour lunch.  Anyone who has a need to maintain the normal winter hours may submit a request through their supervisory line.  Approval for such a request will be at the vice presidential level.  Enjoy your summer.

KUR Special Programming:
This Tuesday, James Kastle will be at the huge rally in Harrisburg to defend higher education, so tune in throughout the day for live reports from various KUR reporters (Mike McVicar & Kyle Loudis) from the Pennsylvania State Capitol. At 2 p.m. (James' normal time on-air) tune in for a "best of" edition of "JKast," replaying the show our staff has chosen as the most poignant of the year.

At 3 p.m., Meghan Godorov is on with her award-winning "Town and Gown on Common Ground" program. This will be a historic "Town and Gown" as, after many many semesters as host of the show, Meghan is graduating, moving on, and hanging up her KUR microphone forever. Tears are sure to flow. Ratings are sure to soar. You think the final episode of M*A*S*H or the final episode of Seinfeld were big in broadcasting history? Nothing will compare to this tearful goodbye. KUR invites you to call into Meghan's show between 3 and 4 and share your tearful stories and goodbyes as this amazing radio host moves onto the next chapters in her life. The talk show line is (610)-683-4859.

At 4 p.m., "The Show" airs, KUR's exclusive sports/talk variety show, and at 5 p.m., it's "Notas Latinas," for the best in Latino talk, news, and music!

Wednesdays - "Diversity Rest Stop" interview segment at 3:45 p.m., by popular demand, we replay our reflection back on the Chinese culture celebration held recently in the Multipurpose Room and sponsored by the Multicultural Center! What better way to wrap up a semester of Diversity interviews than with a replay of one of our most poignant segments highlighting Asian life?

Friday - "Makin' Waves," KUR's own exclusive GLBTQ talk/music magazine show airs from 2 - 4 p.m.
