The
Kutztown University football team will begin the 2011 season ranked 23rd in the
American Football Coaches’ Association (AFCA) top 25 preseason poll released
Monday afternoon. It’s the fourth national preseason ranking for the Golden Bears, who were picked to finish second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division. The Golden Bears, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Raymond Monica, enters the 2011 season ranked 10th by Lindy's Sports College Football, 20th by d2football.com, and 21st by Sporting News College Football. The Golden Bears, coming off a 10-2 season in which they earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II Super Region One playoffs. It was KU’s first postseason trip in the 95-season history of the football program. Kutztown set a school record for wins in a season (10), conference victories (six), and points scored (466). The Golden Bears finished the season ranked 13th in the final AFCA and 14th in the final d2football.com top 25 polls. A continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. will precede the annual opening day address and presentations given by our union and university Senate leaders at 8 a.m. The Freshman Convocation Ceremony is on Sunday, Aug. 28 from 4:15 - 5 p.m. in Keystone Arena.
