ANNOUNCEMENTS

Hurricane Irene preparation - from the Berks County Department of Emergency Services - On a personal level, please help to share with your family and friends the need to have emergency supplies on hand (food, water, medications, etc.) for at least 72 hours.  There are a lot of us out there, and if we each remind 2-3 people and ask that they remind 2-3 people, etc., the effect on overall community preparedness can be highly magnified. Individuals in low-lying areas should have a “go bag” ready and be prepared to move quickly, if flooding appears likely. This means having a place to go pre-planned, and having a plan for what to do with pets.  Also, please remember to check early with friends or family who may be in need of additional support such as those who are elderly, disabled, or economically challenged.

Resident Move In - Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday the residence halls will open from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. for upper-class resident students to move in for the semester.

Saturday is reserved for New Student Check-in and first time residents will move in according to the schedule they received.
Residence hall desks are open from 8 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The desks will remain open from Saturday through Monday 2 a.m.

Normal desk operations will begin at the start of the new semester:  8 a.m. - 2 a.m. weekdays and 24 hour weekends. Old Main’s desk operates 24/7 throughout the fall and spring semesters. Please contact our office with any questions about check in.

Semi-Annual Evacuation Drills Scheduled - The required semi-annual fire drills will be conducted in the academic buildings during the first two days of class. This schedule is selected to meet the state requirements at a time that is least likely to interrupt labs, presentations, and testing. To help these evacuation drills run smoothly and conclude in a timely fashion, please follow these guidelines:

•All students, faculty and staff should evacuate the building immediately, and in an orderly fashion, upon hearing the alarm.
•Close all doors to classrooms, offices, and stairways upon exiting.
•Utilize the closest EXIT pathway to the outside, which may not always be the most common or convenient exit. Please follow EXIT signs.
•Instruct all evacuees to walk well clear of the building to make room for others to exit behind them.
•Avoid blocking emergency vehicle pathways.
•Remain outside the building until the ALL CLEAR signal is given, which will not occur while audio or visual signals are still operating.
Mark W. Hostetter, Fire Safety Technician, University Safety

Undergraduate Admissions needs your help! We have about 25 new tour guides on staff and we’re still in need of staff and faculty to shadow the students on their last practice tour before they “go live” and begin touring prospective students next week. The shadow tours will be held on Monday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. and they leave from the Admissions Center. A campus tour takes approximately one hour. Please email Nicole Becker by the end of the day Friday, Aug. 26, if you would like to participate. nbecker@kutztown.edu.

On Aug. 16, Kutztown converted Desire2Learn to use Active Directory authentication.
This changed all D2L usernames to email addresses and synchronized D2L passwords with email passwords. You will now need to log in with your official Kutztown email as your username and use the same password as you use to access your email. Your old username and password for D2L will no longer work. We hope that you will appreciate this change and quickly adjust to having one less username and password to remember.

To request assistance with “locking and unlocking buildings” after hours ( 4:30 p.m. -7 a.m.) from Public Safety and Police Services, please email publicsafety@kutztown.edu. During the hours of 7 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, please contact a custodial supervisor at x3-4127 for assistance. Thank you.

TMA/iService Desk - iService Desk is an on-line work request system available to all campus customers to request Facilities services and support. Beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 23,  iService Desk will no longer require a username and password for access. You may recall that Facilities instituted a password on this system last fall while we worked to make this system available to residence hall students. We are happy to report that the implementation was successful. All residence hall occupants can now use iService Desk directly to report their maintenance needs. We appreciate your patience over the last academic year as we strived to implement this service for our students.

iService Desk can be accessed at http://tmatalk.kutztown.edu/. Please report any issues with iService Desk to the Facilities Work Control Center at x3-1594.
