Hurricane Irene preparation - from the Berks County Department of Emergency Services - On a personal level, please help to share with your family and friends the need to have emergency supplies on hand (food, water, medications, etc.) for at least 72 hours. There are a lot of us out there, and if we each remind 2-3 people and ask that they remind 2-3 people, etc., the effect on overall community preparedness can be highly magnified. Individuals in low-lying areas should have a “go bag” ready and be prepared to move quickly, if flooding appears likely. This means having a place to go pre-planned, and having a plan for what to do with pets. Also, please remember to check early with friends or family who may be in need of additional support such as those who are elderly, disabled, or economically challenged.

The shadow tours will be held on Monday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. and they leave from the Admissions Center. A campus tour takes approximately one hour. Please email Nicole Becker by the end of the day Friday, Aug. 26, if you would like to participate. nbecker@kutztown.edu. Reminder to all Faculty/Staff Student Organization Advisors - Please encourage your students to register their organization prior to the start of classes, on http://KUnited.kutztown.edu using their “MyKU” login. As part of the orientation program, our first year students will be given a demonstration of KUnited, therefore a strong representation of the 160 organizations on campus will enhance their experience. Student Union & Involvement Services TMA/iService Desk - iService Desk is an on-line work request system available to all campus customers to request Facilities services and support. Beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 23, iService Desk will no longer require a username and password for access. You may recall that Facilities instituted a password on this system last fall while we worked to make this system available to residence hall students. We are happy to report that the implementation was successful. All residence hall occupants can now use iService Desk directly to report their maintenance needs. We appreciate your patience over the last academic year as we strived to implement this service for our students. iService Desk can be accessed at http://tmatalk.kutztown.edu/. Please report any issues with iService Desk to the Facilities Work Control Center at x3-1594. Kim Rhode, director, Facilities Business and Campus Services The Opening Day gathering will be held on Monday, Aug. 29, in Schaeffer Auditorium. A continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. will precede the annual opening day address and presentations given by our union and university Senate leaders at 8 a.m. The Arthur and Isabel Wiesenberger Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching will also be presented at this event. Please remember that college, division and department meetings scheduled for this day are held at the discretion of the appropriate leadership. The Freshman Convocation Ceremony is on Sunday, Aug. 28, from 4:15 - 5 p.m. in Keystone Arena. This is a powerful event that allows us to introduce freshmen formally into academic life at K.U. Regalia is worn by the platform party, but is not required by others in attendance. If you have not yet registered, please register online at www.kutztown.edu/openingday |
