There was a recognition ceremony yesterday for those faculty members who submitted proposals to external sponsors and/or for receiving grant awards for fiscal year 2010.
Grants for FY2010 totaled more than $2.9 million. KU's Lenhart Dance Company, a preprofessional student dance company,
presents their Spring Concert this Saturday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Schaeffer Auditorium. Admission is free; donations gratefully accepted. The program features a premiere by NYC guest choreographer Roger Prince: a beautiful modern dance work with music by Arvo Part, performed live by pianist Dr. Daniel Immel of KU's Music faculty, and Reenat Pinchas, guest cellist. Also on the program will be four dances choreographed by advanced KU dance students, in styles encompassing ballet, modern dance and hip-hop. Please come and enjoy a dynamic evening of dance and music.

Facilities is currently planning an SMS Door Access System upgrade for Mar. 8. This upgrade is necessary to take advantage of new software capability and to take full benefit from the new AD style upgradable door readers and hardware. Additional information and support documentation on this software upgrade, as well as detailed information on the impact of the software upgrade has been provided to campus Authorizing Officials. During the system upgrade, door security features will continue to operate and existing user privileges will not be affected. Secured areas will remain secured. If you need additional information on the potential impact of the door access system upgrade, please contact your Authorizing Official or the Facilities Work Control Center at x31594.

March is Women’s History Month - Please join us for a fun evening with the “Guerrilla Girls,” feminist masked righters-of-wrongs who use facts, humor and outrageous visuals to expose sexism, racism, and corruption in politics, art, film and pop culture. They've appeared at over 90 universities and museums in the past 16 years expressing their philosophy of activism, and their campaign against the appalling lack of ethics in the art world. See their extraordinary and unconventional program at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 2, in the MSU Multipurpose Room.

The Women’s Center presents: “First Steps Speaker Series- Landing That First Job After Graduation” - In celebration of Women’s History month, the Women’s Center is offering a series of programs aimed at connecting KU students with professionals in their desired fields. Talks are held Mar. 2, 16, 18, 22 and 30, 4:30 p.m. in the Academic Forum Lecture Hall 102. Speakers include experts from the fields of business, law, art, psychology, English and education. Students will get to ask questions and get practical tips on getting hired in today’s uncertain economic times.   

Making it in Business! Dr. C.J. Rhoads is the first speaker in the Women’s Center’s First Steps Speaker Series, Wednesday, Mar. 2 at 4:30 p.m. This coveted keynote speaker, published author and KU professor has had a varied career ranging from entrepreneurial ventures to board-level decision making at Fortune 500 companies. She shares her personal career journey in business and answers questions from students.

Department of Speech Communication & Theatre presents the play "Fuddy Meers," a comic play by David Lindsay-Abaire, through Feb. 27 at the Rickenbach Theatre, directed by KU associate professor Roxane Rix. The main character, Claire, is an amnesiac who wakes each morning as a blank slate which her husband and son must fill with the details of her life. When a strange man wants to rescue Claire from her murderous husband, the chase is on. The comic mayhem that follows is seen through the kaleidoscope of Claire's world, and culminates in revelations and reversals that prove none of us are what we appear to be. Curtain is at 8 p.m., or 2 p.m. for the final performance. Bearfest 33 Carnival Booth Registration - Student Organizations are invited to sponsor a booth at the Bearfest 33 carnival on Saturday, Apr. 16, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Many organizations have used this opportunity to highlight their community involvement, or to fundraise. Bursar Office closure notice - The Bursar Office will be closed tomorrow, Feb. 25 from 8 - 10:30 a.m. for training on the new student information system, PeopleSoft. As always, our secure and locked drop slot is available for payments during that time period. In addition, we will have limited services during the 'go-live' period of time of PeopleSoft scheduled for the end of February through the beginning of March.
