The next University Curriculum Committee (UCC) meeting will be held on Feb. 24. The deadline for submission of all proposals for this meeting is noon on Thursday, Feb. 10. Please submit new proposals prior to this deadline to the UCC secretary, Bethany French, in the Provost’s Office, 309 Stratton Admin. The Student Union Art Gallery is currently featuring "Spring Cleaning" presented by Eckhaus. The exhibition will be on display until Thursday, Feb. 17. There is a catered opening reception scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 15 from 6-7 p.m. This opening will be an opportunity for students to buy, sell, or trade artwork that they have made in previous semesters. Hope to see you there!

Student Volunteers Needed!  KU is excited to host the CE Regional Science Olympiad on Mar. 9 (snow date Mar. 10). We are expecting 30 high schools and 17 middle schools from Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton Counties. There will be more than 700 students competing in 46 events in a variety of science disciplines such as biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers, and technology. Student volunteers are needed to help with registration, event set-up, food delivery, building lobby help, raffle, lost/found, score checking and so much more! Anyone is welcome to help – science backgrounds are not needed. Student volunteers representing KU will receive an awesome Olympiad T-shirt and certificate of appreciation. The opening ceremony is at 8:30 a.m. and events run from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Awards will begin at 3:15 p.m. If you are interested in spending the day with us (or even just a few hours),  please contact Dr. Julie Palkendo at palkendo@kutztown.edu.

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) will have its first general assembly meeting of the spring semester on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 5 p.m. in MSU 322. The GSA is a great way for graduate students to get involved with the KU community. Various activities and networking sessions take place throughout the semester. KUBoK Neighborhood Watch will be hosting their Spring Training session on Wednesday, Feb 9 at 7 p.m. in AF 102. Faculty Shop Talks -  Faculty Shop Talks provide an opportunity for KU faculty to come together from across campus to interact on both a professional and social level in a relaxed, collegial atmosphere. Shop Talks provide a forum for serious yet informal presentation of original research and artistic creation by KU faculty with the aim of increasing scholarly communication and interactions across disciplines within the University community. Refreshments are provided and there is an opportunity to chat with the speaker and other attendees after the presentation. Shop Talk is supported through the generosity of the Provost's Office.

D2L Gradebook Workshop - The Learning Technologies Center,  RL30 on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 9 – 10 a.m. or Thursday, Feb. 10 , 10-11 a.m. Attend this workshop to learn how to configure the D2L gradebook, create gradebook entries, and enter student grades. Learn how to create letter grade schemes and configure the gradebook so the student sees an accurate running average during the course of the semester. Learn how to use the categories feature to automatically drop the lowest score in a series of gradebook items.

Viewpoints Menu - Today:
Baked meatloaf with mushroom gravy, bean and rice tacos, whipped buttermilk mashed potatoes, corn and green beans and mushrooms. Soups of the day are navy bean with bacon and broccoli cheddar. 

Tuesday: Roasted chicken breast sandwich with gravy, baked potato with veggie chili, steak house roasted potatoes, broccoli with cherry tomatoes and carrots. Soups of the day are beef rice and mushroom barley. 

Wednesday: Pan seared pork cutlets with caramelized onion gravy, vegetable noodle bowl, rice pilaf, buttered green beans and vegetable medley. Soups of the day are caramelized onion soup and vegetable rice. 


Thursday: Chicken and waffles, macaroni and cheese, whipped potatoes, cauliflower and peas and carrots. Soups of the day are turkey noodle and ancho roasted corn potato chowder.
 

Friday: Baked tilapia, stuffed shells with marinara, cilantro lime brown rice, stir fried vegetables and wax beans. Soups of the day are Manhattan clam chowder and vegetarian minestrone.

Financial aid requirements are changing for all students! Beginning fall 2011, major changes are being made to the Financial Aid progress requirements. Information sessions will be held to inform the campus community about these changes. All faculty and staff are encouraged to attend a session if they advise students in matters of enrollment and did not attend a session in the fall semester. The final session will be held in AF 200, Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. Please encourage your students to attend. 75-80% of all students at KU receive a form of financial aid!

Kutztown University was named by Military Advanced Education (Vol 5, Issue 10, December 2010)
as an honoree of the 2010 Top Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities. Military Advanced Education is published as a Journal of Higher Learning for Today’s Servicemember. Colleges and Universities were contacted and asked to complete a survey regarding veterans’ services.  An ADA Veterans Task Force was established in 2009 and has been working toward addressing the campus concerns of veterans, as well as establishing a Veterans Center. Presently Kutztown University has approximately 140 veterans enrolled and has completed a mail campaign to inform other veterans from the surrounding area Kutztown University is veteran friendly and prepared to assist them with their educational goals.
