Meet this week's KU Pride featured employee, Bill Eben, ResNet coordinator. His story is below.

ku pride

Bill Eben does not play video games at work! But, as ResNet Coordinator, he does help KU resident students play computer games online. For the past 13 years, Eben has worked for Residential Network Computing, serving the 4,000-plus students who live on campus.

Under the Office of Information Technology, Eben and his staff provide Internet support for laptop/desktop computers, smart phones, mobile computing devices, wi-fi access points and video game consoles.

“It is a full-time job,” said Eben, who noted that the ResNet help desk in Johnson Hall is open seven days a week.

A graduate of Moravian College with a bachelor’s in English and a minor in journalism, Eben worked as a technical writer, computer trainer and international support analyst before joining KU.

Throughout his career, Eben has traveled across many time zones, but his very first landing on Earth left him with a permanent “jet-lag.”

“Few people realize that my official birthday is the day before I actually was born at 12:38 a.m. on July 29. In those days, hospitals recorded the birth time in Eastern Standard Time not Daylight Savings Time. Though the birthday on my driver’s license says July 28, I accept presents anytime!”
