Berks Encore honored Berks County's five colleges
for making the community recognizable, special and smarter at a ceremony last Thursday. The social service agency for senior citizens recognized Albright College, Alvernia University, Kutztown University, Penn State Berks and Reading Area Community College at its 11th annual Community Breakfast in the Crowne Plaza Reading, Wyomissing.

From the Reading Eagle: "Chris Kraras, Berks Encore board chairman, showed just how wide the reach the five schools is in Berks. He asked the audience of about 500 people to stand if they have a connection to one of the schools. Nearly everyone stood."

ACADEMICS

The following DVDS were added to the media library and are available in the AV Center:

The Four Seasons of Isadore Sharp (DVD 5191) It all started in 1961 with one motel on Toronto’s seedy Jarvis Street. Since then, Four Seasons founder Isadore Sharp has revolutionized the hotel business; his empire now manages 79 luxury hotels in 33 countries. This is a business story and biography in equal parts, and was made possible through the extraordinary behind-the-scenes access to Sharp, his family and his business colleagues, some of the wealthiest people in the world.

Classical Music Videoclips – (DVD 5192 - 5195) This dazzling 4 part series of popular musical classics utilizes a variety of animation combined with live action, creating fantastic graphics and images. A luminous mixture of sound and images provides an eye-catching introduction to the joys of classical music at its best.

Destination Art: Berlin (DVD 5186) The spotlight also falls on Berlin, an epicenter, of European contemporary art. When the Berlin wall came down in 1989, artists moved in attracted by the city’s bohemian image and liberalism. Frank Thiel has documented the rapid rebirth and architectural changes in the reunified Berlin and Norbert Bisky’s violent, but pastel scenes deal with disillusion in the utopia of a western world. Also featured: Daniel Richter, Joel Morrison.
