Meet Kenneth Long
As Assistant Vice President for Administration and Finance, Kenneth Long is responsible for administering the university’s financial operations, safeguarding assets and ensuring that university resources are properly utilized under the direction of the Vice President for Administration and Finance, Gerald Silberman.
Ken, as he likes to be called, oversees and provides leadership to all financial services functions including: accounting, accounts payable, bursar, budget and purchasing. He also serves as a university contracting officer and as an advisor to the executive director of Kutztown University Student Services Inc. Additionally, he provides financial analysis and recommendations for new and existing academic and administrative programs and capital projects.
One might assume that Ken would take a break from all this number crunching on his days off. And most of the time he is a dedicated father of three daughters. But when election time rolls around, he can’t resist dusting off his undergraduate degrees in mathematics and political science to follow the candidates.
“I am an election night junky,” he confesses. “I like to stay up into the late evening and early morning to monitor the polls. Using maps, a computer and prior year election results, I attempt to project the election outcomes before the media outlets release their results.”
Prior to joining the Administration and Finance team at KU, Ken was part of the same division at the University of Toledo (UT) serving as Director of Budgeting, interim CFO of the Physician Group and as Associate Vice President. Before UT, he worked for DeVry University. In his 18 years at DeVry, Ken held several positions in the Finance Division including five years as the New Jersey campus’ chief fiscal and administrative officer.
He and his wife Evelyn moved to the area in 2008 after living in northwest Ohio for several years. With close relatives throughout the East Coast, Ken says the Lehigh Valley is an ideal location to raise his family.
“And now that we are settled into a new home, the kids and my wife are looking forward to going to some of the local summer festivals and outdoor events.”
