KU students were busy over Spring Break volunteering. Among the many activities, the KU Community Outreach Center organized the  Alternative Spring Break. Instead of spending spring break at home or on vacation, students volunteer their time for the good of humanity. This year the center organized trips to: Washington, D.C., where volunteers worked in soup kitchens, at homeless shelters and health clinics helping those in need; Assateague Island State Park in Maryland, to help the park with cleanup and repair; Pocahontas State Park in Virginia, where students helped with refurbishing projects and other park enhancements; North Carolina and Tennessee, where students joined Habitat for Humanity to help build homes at three separate sites. Here are two news stories of KU students hard at work over Spring Break.  http://www.wsoctv.com/news/27161986/detail.html, http://www.virginiaoutdoors.com/article/more/2289

Service Request Schedule/Special Event Support- In an effort to better serve our customers, the Facilities Office schedules events and deliveries in advance. As a result of the high volume of these types of requests, timely planning and notification by our customers will greatly increase our opportunity for success in this area. Because of the many varied interests and competing priorities, we must be able to better anticipate use of our limited resources. In the future, the Facilities Department may not be able to guarantee that we will service requests on short notice, since doing so may impact other customers' planned requests. Please submit your set-up requests and special event support needs at least two weeks in advance in order to assure that you will have the level of support that you need. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

The Kutztown University Sunshine Players, one of the campus’ longest-running student organizations, invite the Kutztown community to enjoy Sally Snoo and the Bird From Kaloo on March 26 and 27 in the Learning Center’s Rickenbach Theatre.

The original short children’s play follows the adventure of Sally, a young girl who is searching for a famous six-foot-tall bird from Kaloo to add to her collection of exotic animals. In this tongue-twisting, Dr. Seuss-themed production, Sally Snoo emphasizes the values of friendship and animal rights, while often including audience participation and even a sing-along. The play was written by KU alum Trystin S. Bailey, who is currently producing original works in New York City.

To help celebrate Dr. Seuss month and the joy of reading, the Sunshine Players are teaming up with KU’s Community Outreach Center and America Reads to host “Dr. Seuss on the Loose!,” a morning filled with prizes, games, food, and crafts, a free book for every child, and even a visit from a very special cat. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union Building, Room 281, just before the first performance of Sally Snoo at 12:45 p.m. Admission is free for all events.

The Sunshine Players will be accepting donations of new and used children’s books at all performances to donate to a local children’s charity. Sally Snoo and the Bird From Kaloo will be performed on Saturday, March 26 at 12:45 and 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m. For more information or to reserve a seat, please contact Eva at ewask809@live.kutztown.edu.
