Join the Kutztown University Foundation for their annual scholarship event, Beacon on the Hill, in Schaeffer Auditorium at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 14. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres, socialize with guests and bid on items in the silent auction. Then at 8 p.m. enjoy a KUPresents! performance of Jami Tyzik’s Femmes Fatales, presented at Ursa Minor’s Café in the MSU MPR. 

Registration for this event begins March 7 through the KU Foundation, 610-683-1394. Tickets are $150 per person.

Proceeds from Beacon on the Hill help to finance the Beacon Scholarship, established to provide four-year merit scholarships to incoming freshmen based on criteria established from year-to-year by each undergraduate college dean.

KU Presents! director Andy Cassano hosts four public open houses to talk more about renovations to the Nathan C. Schaeffer Auditorium at Kutztown University. The dates are Thursday, March 3 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 9 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, March 12 at 1:30 p.m. Each open house will be held in Schaeffer Auditorium. The event is open to the all.  

The Schaeffer Auditorium is scheduled for an 18-month long renovation and remodeling beginning in January 2012. This is the first major work on the auditorium since it opened in 1938. At each open house, Cassano will be sharing project details, showing renderings and floor plans, as well as taking people on a backstage tour of the facility. 


Working it Out! Clothing Drive Collection-
The
Kutztown University Women’s Center and the Career Development Center are holding a professional clothing drive, “Working it Out” in the Old Main concourse for students and faculty in need of professional work attire. This includes suits, jackets, pants, shoes, ties, shirts, sweaters, belts and accessories. All clothing donations must be clean and on a hanger. Drop-off days for the drive are Mar. 11 and 14, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m., in the Old Main Concourse.

Distribution begins Mar. 15 for students only, 9 a.m.- 8 p.m, Mar. 16 and 17 is for students, faculty and staff 9 a.m.- 6 p.m and Mar. 18 is for students, faculty and staff 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. all in the Old Main Concourse. In exchange for a donation of one non-perishable food item for Friend, Inc., you can get FREE donated clothing for your job, interview or career!

At 3 p.m., Meghan Godorov is on with her award-winning "Town and Gown on Common Ground" program, sitting down with KU Director of University Relations Matt Santos and Assistant Vice President of Administration & Finance, Ken Long. At 4 p.m., "The Show" airs, KUR's exclusive sports/talk variety show, detailing our Golden Bears as well as regional and national sports! Then at 5 p.m., it's "Notas Latinas," for the best in Latino talk, news, and music!

Wednesday is our "Diversity Rest Stop" interview segment at 3:45 p.m., with smooth jazz sax player Vincent Ingala. At the tender age of 18, Ingala has done more in his young life than most smooth jazz stars could ever dream of doing in 50 years.
Then on Friday, "Makin' Waves," KUR's own exclusive GLBTQ talk/music magazine show airs from 2 - 4 p.m.

Attention all KU sophomores and their advisors: Through the Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC), the U.S. Army offers opportunities for KU graduates to serve their country in more than 16 career fields including aviation engineering, medical services and logistics, beginning as a 2nd Lieutenant. Starting pay is more than $40,000 with regular increases to $60,000 within four years. Additionally, the leadership skills learned as a U.S. Army officer are in high demand in the private sector following service. U.S. Army officers are aggressively recruited by Fortune 500 companies and government agencies for their experience. 

To get started, sophomores are invited to attend a Leader’s Training Course offered by the ROTC this summer Fort Knox, Ky. There is no service obligation to attend the course. For those who successfully complete the course and wish to seek a commission, opportunities to compete for scholarships and cash bonuses exist.

ATHLETICS

Kutztown men's basketball is hosting a playoff game! Kutztown University men's basketball is hosting a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quarterfinal game today against East Stroudsburg at Keystone Arena at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $2 for students. Students from member institutions will be admitted free with a valid I.D. There will be no complimentary tickets and only PSAC passes will be accepted at the door. For fans who can’t make the game in person, it will be shown live on KUTV, which is Service Electric Channel 24 and Hometown Utilicom Channel 28 in Kutztown and eastern Berks County.

Kutztown University women’s basketball team has qualified for the 2011 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs. The KU women will open on the road as the No. 4 seed when it travels to top-seeded Bloomsburg University at Nelson Field House today, beginning at 7 p.m.

Mardi Gras early - The Cub Café will be featuring some Cajun inspired foods during lunch today from 10:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Please note, Mexican entrees will not be served during this time but will resume for the Dinner Zone at 3:30 p.m. The Academic Forum will be featuring their Mardi Gras celebration tomorrow, Mar. 2.


Viewpoints Menu - Today: Open face roast beef sandwich, crispy vegan tofu, steak fries, wax beans and sesame vegetables. Soups of the day are cream of turkey and vegetarian soup. 

Wednesday: Roast pork loin with apple sage stuffing, veggie quiche, whipped red skin potatoes, corn and refried beans. Soups of the day taco soup and cream of mushroom. 

Thursday: Roasted chicken with gravy, black bean cakes, whipped potatoes, cauliflower and peas, mushrooms and red peppers. Soups of the day are turkey vegetable chowder and cheddar soup. 

Friday: Baked whitefish polonaise, macaroni and cheese, Caribbean sweet potatoes, stewed tomatoes and vegetable medley. Soups of the day are new England clam chowder and tomato rice.

Door Access System Upgrade Mar. 8 - Facilities has scheduled a door access software/system upgrade for Mar. 8. During that time campus Authorizing Officials who use Security Management System (SMS) software to manage door schedules and door privileges may experience a period of time where the software is unavailable for system changes. March is Women’s History Month - Please join us for a fun evening with the “Guerrilla Girls,” feminist masked righters-of-wrongs who use facts, humor and outrageous visuals to expose sexism, racism, and corruption in politics, art, film and pop culture. They've appeared at more than 90 universities and museums in the past 16 years expressing their philosophy of activism, and their campaign against the appalling lack of ethics in the art world.
