First Book is a nonprofit organization that raises money to give children of low income families their first book. Without this organization, many young children are less likely to receive such a wonderful gift. We are asking you to help us raise money by donating any empty jar you may have (i.e., coffee can, pretzel jar, etc.) so that we can put them around Kutztown’s local businesses in hopes for donations. Donation jars can be dropped off at the Community Outreach Center in the MSU. We plan on gaining support from our friends and local businesses in this project. With your help, we will begin to accomplish our goal of supplying books to young children. Electrical work is being done in the DeFrancesco Building tomorrow by an outside contractor between the hours of 7 a.m. through 4 p.m. Service to the building will not be affected. The Community Outreach Center will be holding an event tomorrow called Adopt-an-Apartment where we will be bringing a group of 15 volunteers to paint, clean, and re-furnish the place for homeless families and their children temporarily until they find work through the program. It will be held at The Sixth Street Apartments in Allentown. We are asking anyone to help with donations to make this event successful. Any new or used items will do, so an early start on spring cleaning wouldn't hurt! Some items include: Kitchen: Dishware, plates, pot holders, silverware, cutting boards, measuring cups, coffee maker, wall clock, place mats, paper towel holder Bedroom: Twin size sheets, blankets, pillows, comforters, plastic hangers, alarm clock Bathroom: Towels, washcloths, shower curtain, bath rug, soap pump, plunger, toilet paper Cleaning supplies: Dust pan, broom, sponges, paper towels, flashlight Any donations will be greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at the Community Outreach Center in the MSU.
