STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Kutztown Rugby falls to Army - The KU rugby team suffered a tough defeat on Saturday at the hands of Army, 33-27. The Golden Bears led West Point 27-10 at the half before the Knights scored 23 unanswered points with a dominating second half. Junior Tim Acker led Kutztown with 17 points. Graduate student Greg Brooks and freshman Andrew Apt scored five points each for KU. The Golden Bears, now 0-2 in conference play, will take on Ohio State at home in a must-win situation this Saturday, April 2. Match time is 1 p.m.; admission is free.

The Kutztown University Equestrian Team has seen nothing but success. As a team, we have finished second in a region of 10 colleges.  We have scored two high-point team ribbons and five reserve high-point team ribbons throughout this school year.  That means we have scored two first places and five second places as a team.

In English, we are sending 13 people to Regionals who have a chance to move forward to Zones, and then to Nationals.

In Western, we sent one rider to Regionals who has qualified for Semi-Finals.

Four of our riders were in the running for the Cacchione Cup, which is an award for the rider who has scored the most points in our region.  Jess Benner, a senior, came in second place, Alexis Wirth, a junior, came in fourth place, Carolyn Robinson, a sophomore came in fifteenth place, and Rachael Krause, a senior, came in sixteenth place. These ratings were out of the top twenty-one. We have a freshman by the name of Alyssa Piccoli, whom shows true potential in becoming a star athlete. In her first year, she scored one high point rider ribbon and two reserve high point rider ribbons which mean she has scored the first and second most points out of all the riders in one show. This year, our team had scored 41 points at our host show, the highest score achieved by any school in our region.  Overall, the team has had major triumph throughout the season, and with dedicated team members and positive attitudes, the success of this team will continue to grow.
