Criminal Justice Career Development Day is today.  If you are interested in pursuing a career in the social or human services field, please plan to attend this career development day! Here you will have the opportunity to learn about numerous career paths in the field of social services.  A keynote speaker and 14 panelists will provide insight on: Adult & Juvenile Probation, Federal Agencies, Courts – Administration & Victimization, Private & Non Profit Agencies, Corrections, Local Police, and State Police. Please join KU student-writers for the 7th Annual KU Composition Conference on Wednesday, Apr. 13
. This conference, sponsored by the English department, is a venue for student work produced in all levels of Composition & Rhetoric courses at KU, from freshmen introductory classes to graduate seminars. Our theme this year is "Arts of Noise." Presentations will include traditional essays, audio essays and multimedia work. 

Our Featured Session, from 1 - 2 p.m. in MSU 250, is "Writing Under the Ax." Join local secondary and higher education teachers as they discuss the challenges of teaching and learning writing in the age of big budget cuts, increasing class sizes and No Child Left Behind.  

The conference is free and open to the public. Please encourage your students to attend. All events will take place in MSU; registration and programs are available in MSU 312. Sessions run continuously from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. Drop in for one session or stay the day. Thank you for supporting student writing at KU.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

The KU rugby team will take on Ohio State at home in a must-win situation this Saturday, April 2 at North Campus field. Match time is 1 p.m.; admission is free.


The KU lacrosse team is currently 3-1 overall and 2-1 in their division. So far this season, they have wins over Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, and Lafayette, with their only loss thus far against their divisional rivals Millersville University.  This week, KU Lacrosse will be playing away at Moravian on Thursday at 7 p.m. and home, Friday vs. York College at 8 p.m. on the turf field in the stadium.

Thursday:  Roasted chicken with gravy, black bean cakes, whipped potatoes, cauliflower and peas, mushrooms and red peppers. Soups of the day are turkey vegetable chowder and cheddar soup.


Friday:  Baked whitefish polonaise, macaroni and cheese, Caribbean sweet potatoes, stewed tomatoes and vegetable medley. Soups of the day are New England clam chowder and tomato rice.

Bear Voices, KU's hot a cappella group, will present their Spring show at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow,
Mar. 31, in the Georgian Room. The group will perform popular songs from doo wop of the 1950's to harmony songs of today, including  tunes from Billy Joel, Gloria Estefan, Earth Wind & Fire, and featured in The Sing Off. There are no tickets and admission is free. Come and have a blast.

The Kutztown University Planetarium starts off another season of one-hour laser light shows on Friday, Apr. 1, through Thursday, Apr. 7. The planetarium, located in the Grim Science Building room 100, hosts a variety of laser light shows to the music of the Beatles, Madonna, Pink Floyd, Crystal Method, Metallica, and others.

The first show, Laser Beatles, is at 6 p.m., followed by two more at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The laser light shows are open to the public, with tickets on sale for $3 at MSU, at the door of the show, or online for an additional processing fee.

The planetarium, recently enhanced with a full-dome digital projection system, is used for introductory astronomy laboratory exercises and for the university's Astronomy Outreach Program. The planetarium is also open for free shows on scheduled dates, listed on the website. Private group shows can be scheduled online at the planetarium’s website. The sixth annual Drag Show, a student production by Allies, is Wednesday, Apr. 6, at 7 p.m. in MSU 218. Tickets are $5 with a student ID and $10 for others and are available at the MSU information desk. Tickets are limited. Donations are accepted and all profits benefit the Trevor Project. The Alumni Office is now taking nominations for the Wiesenberger Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. This annual award is presented to a faculty member who has served Kutztown University in an outstanding manner. Kutztown University and the Borough of Kutztown are pleased to announce an open application process for a Student
ambassador non-voting position within the Borough Council for the Borough of Kutztown as well as to the Mayor of Kutztown. This position is open to any full time Kutztown University student and will begin Sept. 1, for a one-year term. Interested students must submit the completed application no later than Apr. 29. The applications will be reviewed by representatives of KU and the Borough of Kutztown. Following a review, finalists will be determined and those applicants will be interviewed. The Race Against Racism committee is looking for donations and runners for our 5th annual Race Against Racism. The race will be held on Apr. 9 at 9 a.m. This is a 5k run/1k walk, the 1k is considered a "fun walk" which is a great opportunity to get the kids involved. The committee is hoping to get at least 200 runners involved, as well as faculty sponsor support for runners. It is $15 for individual student runners and $25 for all other participants. All proceeds from the race will go toward the Boys and Girls Club of Berks County. Any questions should be directed to Amanda Kerns, RAR advisor, kerns@kutztown.edu
