The Secondary Education Department announces that the spring Comprehensive Examination for the Master of Education in Secondary Education has been scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 2, at 9:15 a.m. in 23 Rohrbach Library. Students wishing to take the examination should contact the Secondary Education Office, 226 Beekey at x3-4259.

A test of the campus Mass Notification System will be conducted on Thursday, Mar. 10, at 10 a.m. This test will affect those buildings with voice-communication fire alarm systems only. Buildings with fire alarm bells or horns are not capable of receiving voice-mass notification signals and messages. In order to become familiar with the Mass Notification message, click here.

Reminder: Door Access System Upgrade tomorrow, Mar. 8 - Facilities has scheduled a door access software/system upgrade for tomorrow. During this time campus authorizing officials who use Security Management System (SMS) software to manage door schedules and door privileges may experience a period of time where the software is unavailable for system changes.  All authorizing officials should complete updates to door schedules and privileges before 7 a.m. tomorrow morning. Secured areas will remain secured. Please contact the Facilities Work Control Center with any questions you might have regarding this scheduled software upgrade.

A Spring Break of Our Own
– While the students are away enjoying their time off, treat yourself to a little taste of spring.  The Dixon Creamery will be open on Wednesday, Mar. 9, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. with special deals for everyone. Regular size soft serve ice cream will be one dollar, and hard ice cream will be a dollar per scoop.

Java City in the Bear’s Den will be open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. and will resume normal hours on Monday, Mar. 14, (please note, on Wednesday, Mar. 9, Java City will be closed and the Cub Café will open from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. to accommodate the Science Olympiad visitors). 

All other locations will be closed during Spring Break and will resume normal hours on Monday, Mar. 14.

Construction Update: There will be a brief shut-down of the heating system in the deFrancesco Building on Wednesday, Mar. 9 starting at 7-11 a.m. in support of the chiller replacement project. While the new connections are being made, selected areas may experience slight reductions in heating levels.

Beacon on the Hill, in Schaeffer Auditorium at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 14. At the event, chaired by Martin K. Till and Tiffany Cavanaugh of the Lehigh Valley, enjoy hors d’oeuvres, socialize with guests and bid on items in the silent auction. Then at 8 p.m. enjoy a KUPresents! performance of Jami Tyzik’s Femmes Fatales, presented at Ursa Minor’s Café in the MSU MPR. 

Registration for this event begins today, Mar. 7, through the KU Foundation, 610-683-1394. Tickets are $150 per person.

Proceeds from Beacon on the Hill help to finance the Beacon Scholarship, established to provide four-year merit scholarships to incoming freshmen based on criteria established from year-to-year by each undergraduate college dean.
