Join the Kutztown University Foundation for their annual scholarship event,
Beacon on the Hill, in Schaeffer Auditorium at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 14. At the event, chaired by Martin K. Till and Tiffany Cavanaugh of the Lehigh Valley, enjoy hors d’oeuvres, socialize with guests and bid on items in the silent auction. Then at 8 p.m. enjoy a KUPresents! performance of Jami Tyzik’s Femmes Fatales, presented at Ursa Minor’s Café in the MSU MPR. 

Registration for this event is through the KU Foundation, 610-683-1394. Tickets are $150 per person.

Proceeds from
Beacon on the Hill
help to finance the Beacon Scholarship, established to provide four-year merit scholarships to incoming freshmen based on criteria established from year-to-year by each undergraduate college dean.

ATHLETICS

KU Men's Rugby volunteered time yesterday for PUSH AMERICA while on Spring Break at the Clemson Outdoor Lab camp where they are are staying while training.  They cleared woods and moved tons of pavers in a project to make the cabins accessible for campers with disabilities. Open Dining Locations during Spring Break:

Viewpoints: Open Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. 


Java City in the Bear’s Den will be open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. and will resume normal hours on Monday, Mar. 14.

Update:  Java City in the Bear’s Den will also be open on Wednesday, Mar. 9, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in addition to the Cub Café to accommodate the Science Olympiad visitors.

All other locations will be closed during Spring Break and will resume normal hours on Monday, Mar. 14.

The next University Curriculum Committee (UCC) meeting will be held on Mar. 24. The deadline for submission of all proposals for this meeting is 12 p.m. (noon) on tomorrow, Mar. 10. Please submit new proposals prior to this deadline to the UCC secretary, Bethany French, in the Provost’s Office, 309 Stratton Admin. KU Senate Governance Committee willingness-to-serve opens Monday Mar. 14. More than 80 positions are available on 24 senate governance committees. Specific committee vacancies, descriptions, and the nominations procedure will be posted and will run in Profs Online. This is a (user-friendly) self or colleague nomination process unrestricted by years of service. Committee terms are usually two or three years. Nominations close Monday, Apr. 4, 11:59 p.m. Appointments are made by the Committee on Committees and approved by Senate in late April. Service begins Aug. 29, 2011.

Anders Ericsson on issues that can have a far reaching impact on how we teach and learn at KU. KU Presents! director Andy Cassano hosts two remaining public open houses to talk more about renovations to the Nathan C. Schaeffer Auditorium at Kutztown University. The dates are tonight, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, March 12 at 1:30 p.m. Each open house will be held in Schaeffer Auditorium. The event is open to the all.  

The Schaeffer Auditorium is scheduled for an 18-month long renovation and remodeling beginning in January 2012. This is the first major work on the auditorium since it opened in 1938. At each open house, Cassano will be sharing project details, showing renderings and floor plans, as well as taking people on a backstage tour of the facility. 



A Spring Break of Our Own – While the students are away enjoying their time off, treat yourself to a little taste of spring.  The Dixon Creamery will be open today, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. with special deals for everyone. Regular size soft serve ice cream will be one dollar, and hard ice cream will be a dollar per scoop.

Construction Update: There will be a brief shut-down of the heating system in the deFrancesco Building today, from 7-11 a.m. in support of the chiller replacement project. While the new connections are being made, selected areas may experience slight reductions in heating levels.

The Keystone Hall Swimming Pool will be closed from Friday, Mar. 4 – Saturday, Mar. 12.  Regular hours of operation will resume on Sunday, Mar. 13, from 7 - 10 p.m.

There will be no group exercise classes beginning Mar. 4. Classes will resume Mar. 13
