ACADEMICS

The following DVD is available in the AV Center for preview:

Choices 2:  Reaching Out (DVD 5183) This is a youth suicide prevention educational package from the Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of BC and the American Association of Suicidology.

North Face (DVD 5173) Based on a true story.  North Face is a gripping edge-of-your-seat adventure drama about a 1936 expedition to climb the most dangerous rock face in the Alps, the North Face of the Eiger – aka the “Murder Wall.”  The Eiger has never successfully climbed and, as the Berlin Olympics approach, Nazi propaganda urges German alpinists to vanquish the mountain for the glory of the Fatherland.  Initially reluctant, two top young climbers, Toni Kurz (Benno Furmann, “Joyeux Noel”) and Andi Hinterstoisser (Florian Lukas, “Good Bye Lenin!”), are persuaded to take up the challenge by their childhood friend Luise (Johanna Wokalek, “The Baader Meinhof Complex," now an aspiring photojournalist in Berlin, and her boss (Ulrich Tukur, “The Lives of Others”), a loyal Nazi looking for a good story. Soon, the climb is on and what begins as a quest for glory becomes a desperate fight for survival.

Common Wealth:  La Comunidad (DVD 5174)  Julia finds 300 million pesetas hidden in a dead man’s house while selling an apartment.  She’s a 40-ish real estate agent (played by Carmen Maura) now forced to face the wrath of a very peculiar community of neighbors headed by an unscrupulous administrator. Humor gives way to suspense, closely followed by horror that doesn’t take long in coming to a head in undisguised pandemonium.

Website assistance requests - Please be advised that the University Relations web team is in the midst of redesigning the university’s website. The university will have a new website in the coming school year, so please consider this when deciding on beginning any website projects for your areas. Because of our project, we cannot guarantee that we’ll be able to assist you with day-to-day maintenance of the existing websites. We will accommodate requests as time permits, however, we need to ask for at least four weeks notice so that we can plan and implement changes properly. Thank you for your understanding.
