ACADEMICS

The following DVDs have been added to the media library:

Choices 2:  Reaching Out (DVD 5183) This is a youth suicide prevention educational package from the Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of BC and the American Association of Suicidology.

North Face (DVD 5173) Based on a true story.  North Face is a gripping edge-of-your-seat adventure drama about a 1936 expedition to climb the most dangerous rock face in the Alps, the North Face of the Eiger – aka the “Murder Wall.”  The Eiger has never successfully climbed and, as the Berlin Olympics approach, Nazi propaganda urges German alpinists to vanquish the mountain for the glory of the Fatherland.  Initially reluctant, two top young climbers, Toni Kurz (Benno Furmann, “Joyeux Noel”) and Andi Hinterstoisser (Florian Lukas, “Good Bye Lenin!”), are persuaded to take up the challenge by their childhood friend Luise (Johanna Wokalek, “The Baader Meinhof Complex," now an aspiring photojournalist in Berlin, and her boss (Ulrich Tukur, “The Lives of Others”), a loyal Nazi looking for a good story. Soon, the climb is on and what begins as a quest for glory becomes a desperate fight for survival.

Common Wealth:  La Comunidad (DVD 5174)  Julia finds 300 million pesetas hidden in a dead man’s house while selling an apartment.  She’s a 40-ish real estate agent (played by Carmen Maura) now forced to face the wrath of a very peculiar community of neighbors headed by an unscrupulous administrator. Humor gives way to suspense, closely followed by horror that doesn’t take long in coming to a head in undisguised pandemonium.

As Far as My Feet Will Carry Me (DVD 5172) Based on the true story and a bestselling novel, this powerful epic captures the incredible journey of German soldier Clemens Forell in his dramatic escape from a Siberian labor camp after World War II. Through bitter cold winters, desolate landscapes, and life threatening adventures, Forell – determined to be reunited with his beloved family – makes his way, step by step, day by day, towards freedom. More than 8,000 miles and three endless years of uncertainty later, he is finally about to reach his destination.

The Baader Meinhof Complex (DVD 5175-5176) Germany 1967:  The children of the Nazi generation have grown up in the devastation their parents created.  They vowed fascism would never rule again.  In their fight for freedom, they lost themselves in the cause and ignited a revolution around the world.

Casi Divas (DVD 5177) Four ambitious and beautiful women from very different worlds. Just like hundreds of others, they are caught up in the frenzy that sweeps the nation when Alejandro Mateos (Julio Bracho), one of the country’s most powerful producers, dreams up a nationwide talent search to cast the lead in his next big movie.  But all this is news to Alejandro’s on-again, off-again lover, Eva Gallardo (Patricia Llaca), a diva of epic proportions, who expected to get the part. While Eva schemes to nail down the role, our four leads begin their own journey on the road to fame.

Website assistance requests - Please be advised that the University Relations web team is in the midst of redesigning the university’s website. The university will have a new website in the coming school year, so please consider this when deciding on beginning any website projects for your areas. Because of our project, we cannot guarantee that we’ll be able to assist you with day-to-day maintenance of the existing websites. We will accommodate requests as time permits, however, we need to ask for at least four weeks notice so that we can plan and implement changes properly. Thank you for your understanding.
