ANNOU
NCEMENTS

Kutztown University senior Josh Smith was named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The starting wide receiver holds a 3.76 overall GPA and played a significant part in Kutztown's historic season, ranking third on the team with 582 receiving yards on 35 catches.  His 11 receiving TDs tied him for third in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Smith helped the Golden Bears set a school record for wins in a season (11), while winning its first PSAC Championship and NCAA playoff game. Kutztown rose as high as sixth in the AFCA Division II rankings, the highest in school history.   The team's six PSAC East victories tied the school mark set last season and his knack for finding the end zone helped Kutztown score 35 points or more nine times en route to a school-record 487 points.

KU Presents! had a beautiful, live 10ft tree donated for our production of The Snowman. Now that the show is over, we’d like to pay it forward. If you know of a local non-profit that would like to come and take it, please contact Greg Kokolus at kokolus@kutztown.edu.

Just a reminder to those departments, offices, and individuals that pledged holiday food boxes for Friend Inc.
– to please have the boxes delivered to the Community Outreach Center, MSU 281 by Wednesday, Dec. 15. If you need assistance, we will be glad to help unload your box(s) from your car or pick up from your office if needed. If you didn’t sign up for box – and still want to participate – feel free to contact me at schearer@kutztown.edu or x3-4923.

German Theater Celebration/ High School Outreach - On Friday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. in MSU 183 (Alumni Auditorium), the GER 355 (Reading and Performing German Drama) class members will present original skits that they wrote for the course. Inspired in part by the skits of the German humorist Loriot, students composed short skits (1-2 pages) about current events topics or human interest topics. Topics range from coping with everyday communication problems, to genetically altered food and its effect on human relationships, to consequences of the recent closing of atomic energy plants in Germany. KU students will present from approx. 2:15-3:15 p.m. German Students from Kutztown High School will also attend and present some of their original work from approx 3:15-4 p.m. The German Students' Organization will offer traditional German Christmas cakes and cookies following the performance.

The Department of Communications Studies (formerly Speech Communication) and Theatre wishes to announce the retirement of Prof. Karin Sergel, at the end of this current semester. Prof. Sergel has served the department, the college, the university and especially the faculty as an officer and delegate of APSCUF for more than 20 years. We are sad to see her leave but happy that she will enjoy her much-deserved retirement in the company of her six grandchildren. The department is hosting a party for her on Thursday, Dec. 8, at the 11 a.m. free hour in the faculty lounge on the second floor of Rickenbach. Please drop by and extend your good wishes, say good-bye, have a nosh!

In Case You Missed It:
(Announcements and other information that have previously appeared in the Daily Brief.)
Beginning in January, renovations to Schaeffer Auditorium will necessitate the closing down of some pedestrian walkways near to the construction site. During "phase one" of these improvements a protective fence will surround the site blocking the triangular walkway in front of Schaeffer. The walkway parallel to Schaeffer Lane and next to the President's House will remain available during this portion of the renovation.  Events that would usually be held in Schaeffer will be held in Ursa Minor’s Café, (MSU MPR).  We hope that these renovations and safety measures do not inconvenience you too much as you go about your daily campus activities.
