Women’s Center Accepting HEART Applications - The HEART at KU training will begin on Jan. 24, 2012. If you are interested in completing this 60-hour domestic and sexual violence education seminar, come to the Women’s Center, OM 126, to pick up an application. Applications may also be downloaded from the Women’s Center website.  Please bring completed applications to the Women’s Center before Dec. 16, 2011. All sessions will be held at Kutztown University on Tuesdays and some Saturdays, through March when classes are in session. This program is free to all KU students, faculty and staff.

HEART training is offered in conjunction with Berks Women in Crisis of Reading, Pennsylvania. Trainees will become certified advocates and learn how to be the first response for victims of domestic violence or rape. This certification is a great résumé builder for any student, but especially benefits those in the counseling, women’s studies, psychology, social work and sociology programs.

Once certified, advocates qualify for internships, may volunteer at BWIC and join the KU HEART Advocates team which provides initial support and safety, as needed, to any individual who is reported to be a victim of sexual assault or relationship violence and increases awareness of these issues. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in making a difference in the lives of people affected by sexual and domestic violence.
For more information: visit the Women’s Center at www.kutztown.edu/womenscenter, call x3-4655 or email womenscenter@kutztown.edu.
