There were 21 Thanksgiving Boxes were collected from KU departments, offices, and
staffs last week. This was a great help to Friend, Inc. as they served a
record breaking 159 families at the Food Bank on Thursday, Nov. 17, and an
additional 20 families on Friday morning. The need is great – but so is the
generosity of our faculty and staff. On behalf of those families, Friend Inc.,
and the KU Community Outreach Center thank you to everyone who contributed!
Right now we have 37 boxes committed for December – but if you would like to be
added to the list, please contact Jerry Schearer at
schearer@kutztown.edu

Women’s Center Accepting HEART Applications
- The HEART at KU training will begin on Jan. 24, 2012. If you are interested in
completing this 60-hour domestic and sexual violence education seminar, come to
the Women’s Center, OM 126, to pick up an application. Applications may also be
downloaded from the
Women’s Center website. Please bring completed applications
to the Women’s Center before Dec. 16, 2011. All sessions will be held at
Kutztown University on Tuesdays and some Saturdays, through March when classes
are in session. This program is free to all KU students, faculty and staff.
HEART training is offered in conjunction with Berks Women in Crisis of Reading,
Pennsylvania. Trainees will become certified advocates and learn how to be the
first response for victims of domestic violence or rape. This certification is a
great résumé builder for any student, but especially benefits those in the
counseling, women’s studies, psychology, social work and sociology programs.
Once certified, advocates qualify for internships, may volunteer at BWIC and
join the KU HEART Advocates team which provides initial support and safety, as
needed, to any individual who is reported to be a victim of sexual assault or
relationship violence and increases awareness of these issues. This is a great
opportunity for anyone interested in making a difference in the lives of people
affected by sexual and domestic violence.

Keep KUR as your early autumn soundtrack -
On Tuesday our block of community access talk programming
takes a week off for Thanksgiving week, so be sure to listen in again on the
29th for "Kutztown Live," "The Dan Donahue Show," and "The KU Car Show." KUR
believes in family and we want to give our talk hosts off to safely get home to
their family for the holiday.
All of this in addition to all the new great student/staff specialty shows, the
full schedule of which can be found by clicking on the "Schedule" link on our
webpage near the top.
