Join Allies on Spirit Day on Thursday, Oct. 20. Spirit Day is a national anti-bullying movement in which participants wear purple—symbolizing “spirit” in the rainbow flag—to show solidarity and support for tolerance and acceptance for all. A workshop will be held in the GLBTQ Center at 5 p.m., followed by a candlelight vigil in Alumni Plaza at 6 p.m. If faculty would like to offer extra credit to students for participating in the vigil or to briefly speak at the vigil, please contact Spirit Day Committee Chair and Allies President Chevy Ocasio at cocas336@live.kutztown.edu. John P. Schellenberg Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning - Call for Nominations:

PURPOSE: This award was established by John P. Schellenberg, emeriti Professor of Physical Sciences, faculty, alumni, and friends to recognize an early career faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding work within the mission of the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching (CET).

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for the award, an individual must have been on the faculty full-time at least three but not more than seven years.
The recipient will be chosen based on the following three areas:
1) Pedagogy and Curriculum Innovation
2) Learning Technology Innovation
3) Assessment and/or Research on Learning

CURRENT AWARD: $750 check and a framed certificate. The award will be announced at the Faculty Recognition Ceremony on Nov. 30.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and KU’s Kappa Psi chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority focuses their philanthropic and service causes to Breast Cancer Awareness and Education. ZTA is once again proud to be working with Yoplait Yogurt and its “Saving Lids to Save Lives” campaign in 2011. We hope to help Yoplait further its mission to make a healthy difference in the lives of its consumers. For each pink lid redeemed by customers, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Susan G. Komen For the Cure, up to $2 million. So…all you yogurt eaters….get going and gobble up that yummy yogurt! Just remember to save your lids. Anyone wishing to help our girls out can send the lids to me via campus mail, Barb Reitz, Purchasing, or deposit them in the large collection container in the MSU, or simply notify me via email: reitz@kutztown.edu and I will be glad to pick them up.
