Commencement Speaker - Do you know a senior you think
might be a perfect commencement speaker? Encourage him/her to
apply - the application deadline is this Friday.
Applications will be accepted from graduating masters students
cleared to walk at the fall 2011 commencement ceremony. In order
to be considered for this distinction, a candidate must meet the
following minimum requirements:
-have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 entering the fall
2011 semester
-demonstrate service to the university community and demonstrate
a record of good university citizenship and cooperation
(Presence of these qualities shall be demonstrated in the
application process and letters of recommendation.)
-be in good disciplinary standing
In addition, each candidate must submit a completed application

Finalists will be chosen to participate in an interview process
to determine the candidate of choice who will be expected to
provide a brief address (approximately 3-5 minutes) at the fall

Science from Lehigh University. She successfully defended her
dissertation "The Application on Ontology for Heterogeneous

Highmark Blue Shield PPO members (covered by
both PASSHE and PEBTF plans) who are over age 18 can obtain a
flu shot at any Rite Aid pharmacy in Pennsylvania at no cost to
themselves from October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2012. More
detail regarding this arrangement as well as information for
those non-Highmark Blue Shield PPO members can be found on H.R.
website. As an added reminder: Healthy U participants
(non-PEBTF) can enter the date of their flu shot into the
Highmark website and be rewarded with 15 Healthy U points. The
FOCUS document that addresses the flu shot/Healthy U opportunity
can be found on the PASSHE Healthy U website.

As part of the Homecoming celebrations, the
Student Union Art Gallery and Brick Wall are showing "Peace,
Love, and Kutztown," a juried photography show. Come out and see
some great photos that KU students have submitted. They will be
on display on the Brick Wall from now until Nov. 3. There is an
opening reception for the public on Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 6-7
p.m. at the Brick Wall.

John P. Schellenberg Award for Excellence in Teaching
and Learning - Call for Nominations:
PURPOSE: This award was established by John P. Schellenberg,
emeriti Professor of Physical Sciences, faculty, alumni, and
friends to recognize an early career faculty member who has
demonstrated outstanding work within the mission of the Center
for the Enhancement of Teaching (CET).
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for the award, an individual must
have been on the faculty full-time at least three but not more
than seven years.
The recipient will be chosen based on the following three areas:
1) Pedagogy and Curriculum Innovation
2) Learning Technology Innovation
3) Assessment and/or Research on Learning
CURRENT AWARD: $750 check and a framed certificate. The award
will be announced at the Faculty Recognition Ceremony on Nov.
30.

as they give back to the community this semester. Visit the
“GIVING TREE” outside Beekey 210. Pick an ornament off the tree,
purchase the item on the back of the ornament and bring it back
to the red box next to the tree (Beekey 210). The items you
donate will help the following organizations: Berks County Food
Bank, Animals in Distress, People for People Inc. and School,
Allentown Food Bank, Last Chance Ranch, Homeless Children's
Initiative, Schuylkill County Pet Food Pantry, Berks Women in
Crisis.
Please place your name and address on the back of the ornament,
attach it to the donated item and place it in the donation box
before Nov. 15. For every ornament you fill out/donate you will
be placed in a drawing to win a gift card from a variety of
businesses in Kutztown. Thank you for helping these education
organizations give back to the community and help those in need.

The academic progress requirements for financial aid
have changed. Once again this semester, the Financial
Aid Office will be hosting sessions to educate students and any
faculty and staff members who are involved with advising
students in matters of enrollment. These sessions were held in
