Sweet, sweet tunes will ring out in Rohrbach Library 100B on Thursday, Oct 27, at 7 p.m. when Samantha Miller performs with Die Marriyeschtanne (The Morning Stars), a group dedicated to performing secular Pennsylvania German dialect music. Amanda Richardson and Jeremy Parson round out the trio whose work is informed by extensive research into field recordings and written records of Pennsylfawnisch Deitsch folk music, giving new voice to the old songs. The annual Berks Guild Juried Craft Show will be taking place this Saturday and Sunday in the Keystone Hall Field House. Due to this event, the E-1 (Keystone Hall) parking lot will be closed as follows:
1) Friday (10/28) – the South end (the 2 rows closest to the Field House) will be closed beginning at 6:30 a.m. The remainder of this lot will be closed beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
2) Saturday/Sunday (10/29-30) – the entire E-1 parking lot will be closed.
The E-1 parking lot will reopen on Sunday evening. Please find alternate parking locations for this time period – potential options are lots E-2, F-1, F-6. Thank you very much for your cooperation in this matter.

Dennis J. Dietrich, a professor in the special education department at KU for 30 years, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Dennis was instrumental in creating the MPH program, a tireless advocate for Special Olympics and a great mentor and friend. We are saddened by this loss, but extremely grateful for his contributions to the department, the College of Education and the university.

Thursday, Nov. 3, 11 a.m., swing by MSU and check out an edible art display of this year’s homecoming theme. Student designers Ashely Mentzer and Rick Sliwinski developed the design and mapped out the amount of cupcakes needed – about 500 tie dye cupcakes to produce the edible art. The cupcakes will be on display for a short while for photos with avalanche and then we will give out FREE cupcakes.

The Housing Application process for Fall 2012/Spring 2013 for current on-campus residents takes place Nov. 1 - Dec. 16. Resident students must complete this process in order to select an on-campus assignment for the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 academic year. John P. Schellenberg Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning - Call for Nominations:

PURPOSE: This award was established by John P. Schellenberg, emeriti Professor of Physical Sciences, faculty, alumni, and friends to recognize an early career faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding work within the mission of the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching (CET).

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for the award, an individual must have been on the faculty full-time at least three but not more than seven years.
The recipient will be chosen based on the following three areas:
1) Pedagogy and Curriculum Innovation
2) Learning Technology Innovation
3) Assessment and/or Research on Learning

CURRENT AWARD: $750 check and a framed certificate. The award will be announced at the Faculty Recognition Ceremony on Nov. 30.

The Office of Assessment is saddened to inform the campus community of the death of Lorraine Opiekun, mother of Kathi Malloy. Mrs. Opiekun passed away on Friday, Oct. 21. A mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Kutztown, on Thursday, October 27, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., at Ludwick’s Funeral Home in Kutztown, and Thursday morning, 9 – 10 a.m., at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Lung Association of Lehigh Valley or St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. The academic progress requirements for financial aid have changed.
