KU PRIDE

Meet Amy Bafford
- Amy Bafford has been the assistant director in the Career Development Center since November of last year. Originally from Vancouver, Washington, Amy relocated to Breinigsville with her husband to join the KU family.

Amy
earned her master's degree in College Counseling and Student Development from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California. She studied college counseling because she was attracted to the collegiate environment
, but also wanted to support students as they strive to achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. “I really like the energy and the variety of the job,” says Amy.

As someone who enjoys variety, Amy has chosen the right career. She wears many different hats in her job, and describes a typical day in the Career Development Center as “not typical at all.” In order to provide and ensure a bright future for the graduates of Kutztown, she relates and engages with employers to get them involved and interacting with students on campus through job fairs and employer panels. Additionally, Amy helps students navigate through the overwhelming process of obtaining their first professional job by offering students career counseling, visiting classrooms and holding mock interviews.

When she is not busy at work, Amy describes herself as an “outdoorsy type.” She enjoys hiking, camping, biking, kayaking and going to the beach with a good book. “Although, I really haven’t had much time for that!” jokes Amy. Amy also enjoys cooking and baking, as well as spending time with her husband Caleb, who is attending Kutztown for his master’s degree. Caleb is also an employee of KU, where he works in the Writing Center.

Latino Heritage Month - September 15 - October 15 - When did most of Latin America declare independence? Using the Napoleonic invasion of Spain as an impetus, most of Latin America declared independence from Spain in 1810. By 1825, Mexico, Central and South America were free, soon to be followed by Brazil. Spanish rule in the Americas ended in 1898 when they lost their final colonies to the United States following the Spanish-American War.

One last reminder about the Rohrbach Library Open House on Monday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. I know some of you have already gotten back to us to let us know that you are sending your classes and are offering extra credit. If anyone else plans to send their classes, please let me or Krista Prock (prock@kutztown.edu) know so that we can plan accordingly. Make sure you tell them to put your name and the course on the back of their passports. We'll compile all of your students and send you a list of who attended. Even if you aren't offering credit, we would appreciate it if you would share this opportunity to learn about the library with your students.

The students will complete a self-guided tour to 8 library locations, including our new Media Collection on the second floor, where the DVD's from the Audiovisual Center are going as we finish processing them. At each location, a library employee will stamp their passport and tell them about that area. The students will fill out the back of the passport for a chance to win prizes; this is where the professor and course information will also be submitted.

Thanks for your support. We are hoping for another great turnout.

(Note: any professors who would like to complete a trip around our library during the Open House are also welcome to do so! It's a fun way to see the various areas of the library, including our current exhibits.)
Karen J. Wanamaker, assistant professor, librarian, Rohrbach Library

Service Request Schedule/Special Event Support- In an effort to better serve our customers, the Facilities Office schedules event support and deliveries in advance. As a result of the volume of these types of requests, timely planning and notification by our customers will greatly increase our opportunity for success in this area. Because of the many varied interests and competing priorities, we must be able to better anticipate use of our limited resources. In the future, the Facilities Department may not be able to guarantee that we will service requests on short notice, since doing so may impact other customers' planned requests. Please submit your set-up requests and special event support needs at least two weeks in advance through iService Desk in order to assure that you will have the level of support that you need. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
