Undergraduate Admissions Open House Program - Friday, September 30 - Please welcome more than 900 visitors to the Undergraduate Admissions Open House Program being held for prospective students and their families. Activities include academic exhibits, student services/campus life exhibits, class visits, tours of the campus and meetings with academic departments.

Graduate Admissions Meet 'n Greet on Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 5-6 p.m., in MSU 250 - Wonder what it’s like to be a current graduate student? Find out at the KU Meet and Greet session. Following Kaplan’s presentation, a panel of KU grad students from various programs will speak about their graduate school experience. Learn why they chose to come to graduate school, the ins and outs of the admissions process, and what they’ve gained from the experience thus far. Following the Q&A session, there will be light refreshments and an opportunity to network with current graduate students.

Monday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Georgian Room of Old Main - The Department of Music and Jacobs Music are pleased to present Guest Artist, Konstantinos Papadakis, in a recital titled The “Short Liszt”. Commemorating the bicentennial year of Franz Liszt’s birth, Papadakis will perform some of Liszt’s shorter and less known works such as Impromptu (Nocturne) in F-sharp major and Sonata in B minor. The recital also celebrates the arrival of the new Steinway Concert Grand Piano. The concert is free and open to the public.

2012 FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT (FSA) OPEN ENROLLMENT - Open enrollment for Medical and Dependent Care Reimbursement accounts for the 2012 FSA plan year will be held Oct. 31 through Nov. 11, 2011. Information including vendor update will be forthcoming.

For AFSCME & SCUPA Employees Only:  The PEBTF Open Enrollment period is scheduled for October 3 through October 21, 2011.  Open enrollment is your annual opportunity to select a new health plan and/or add or remove dependents from your coverage.  Please review open enrollment information including PEBTF newsletter and detailed instructions on making changes via Employee Self-Service (ESS) on the H.R. website.   We encourage all employees to use ESS to make updates; however, paper forms are also available on the website. Paper forms must be received in H.R. by October 21, 2011.   Documentation for any new dependents added to coverage must be verified in H.R. by October 28, 2011.  For those employees hired on or after 08/01/03 who pay a plan buy-up fee for Highmark PPO coverage:  Note that rates are decreasing for 2012.  Also note that the UCCI Dental HMO plan will no longer be available after 01/01/12:  Those employees enrolled in the Dental HMO will automatically be transferred to the UCCI Dental PPO plan.

This is my annual reminder about the importance of remaining vigilant in our efforts to prevent bullying and harassment. Kutztown University will not tolerate harassment of any kind --- whether it is in-person, over the phone or online.  

 Any member of the campus community who feels he/she has been harassed is strongly encouraged to report it.  Students should report such incidents to any academic department chair or dean, an appropriate staff member, or directly to the Department of Public Safety and Police Services.  Employees should report any incidents to their supervisor and/or the Human Resources or Social Equity offices.

As members of the Kutztown University community, we have vital roles in maintaining a welcoming environment, which includes respect for every member of our community. We have policies in place that represent the standards our campus community truly values.  These policies can be found on our Social Equity website (http://www.kutztown.edu/admin/socialequity/linksofinterest.asp).  The student handbook, The Key, also addresses harassment under its student conduct and regulations sections (http://thekey.kutztown.edu/).  In addition, our Department of Information Technology specifies proper usage of the university’s computer network and computers under its acceptable use policy (http://www.kutztown.edu/admin/AdminServ/policy/pdfs/ACA-069.pdf).

Let us all commit ourselves to eliminating harassment in all forms and ensuring a safe living, learning and working environment for our students, faculty and staff. To support this endeavor, a similar reminder from PASSHE Chancellor John Cavanaugh follows.

Dear PASSHE Community, 

Among the most important roles of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education is the creation of a welcoming culture of inclusion on our campuses. Harassment of any kind—whether face-to-face or electronically—cannot be tolerated. 

The continuing reports of these attacks, sometimes resulting in suicide, indicate that bullying remains a serious problem. Research indicates that any student could potentially be a target, and that LGBTQIA students are especially vulnerable. We need not to let up our efforts regarding how dangerous bullying can be, and the terrible effects it has on victims and their friends and families. 

All of us must commit ourselves to addressing this very serious issue and eliminate harassment in all its forms. Many of our universities have hosted programs that can serve as examples for us all. I encourage you to learn about the programs offered on your campus. 

All efforts aimed at eliminating bullying are to be commended. These programs should be the standard. My office stands ready to assist PASSHE universities in helping them ensure a safe living, learning, and working environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

As part of the campus wellness initiative, we are pleased to offer programs that cover healthy eating, exercise and life style habits that may reduce the risk of chronic disease. The first program being offered is “Maintain Your Mind” - Registration begins Monday, Oct. 3 and runs thru Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, with a program start date of Oct. 10, 2011. For those employees with Healthy U wellness program (not PEBTF members), completion of programs offered will earn points (as indicated for each program) toward completion of Phase 5 requirements.
