The Kutztown University
men's rugby team defeated Navy, 38-12, in the Plate Final to take fifth place at the 2012 USA Rugby Collegiate 7's National Championships
on Saturday at College Station, Texas. The Golden Bears lit up the scoreboard early and often beginning with a score by standout Tim Acker. KU went on to open up a 26-0 lead at halftime. The Midshipmen finally got on the scoreboard with 6:13 remaining in the second half to close the gap to 26-7. Kutztown responded with a pair of long scores to put the game out of reach.

Kutztown finished 4-2 for the tournament, going 2-1 each day. The Golden Bears had big wins over Virginia and Texas on Friday, and a close loss to Central Washington on Friday to earn a top eight seed and a chance to compete for the national title Saturday. A loss to Arkansas State Saturday morning sent KU to the plate bracket, where they bounced back by avenging the loss to Central Washington and cruising to victory in the final.
