THE DAILY BRIEF

Thursday, April 26, 2012

Follow along with the Golden Bears Softball team at the PSAC Championships today!  http://www.psacsports.org/news/2012/4/19/SB_0419121428.aspx

Kutztown University’s philosophy professor, Dr. John Lizza, delivers the Chambliss Faculty Lecture on "Defining the End of Life" on Wednesday, May 2 at 4:30 p.m. in MSU 183. Dr. Lizza’s lecture, “Defining the End of Life,” examines the current debate over whether “brain death” is death and whether individuals in persistent vegetative state should be counted among the living “we.” Advances in medical technology have posed many ethical and social problems, but perhaps none more fundamental and challenging than the problem of defining death. Many thanks to Bernard McCree, director, Financial Aid for his help yesterday with a story published this morning in the Reading Eagle! Here's the link: http://readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=382189

I want to thank the campus community for their support of Wednesday’s Berks County Special Olympics event held on campus. We were the hosts to more than 2,500 Special Olympic athletes, volunteers and supporters. Having the ability to park 50 school buses in the Stratton Administration parking lot made for a very safe and enjoyable day for all. I understand that this was a minor inconvenience to some, but seeing the smiles on the faces of the Special Olympic athletes was well worth it. Thank you again for your cooperation and understanding in helping us support the Special Olympics.
Terry L. Sitler, director, Conference Services

The Financial Aid Office welcomes 30 fifth-graders and their parents today for the finale of this year’s “College Can Be a Reality” program. Today’s campus visit caps off the seventh year of this early awareness outreach collaboration between the Financial Aid Office and Lauer’s Park Elementary School in Reading. Thanks to those KU staff, faculty, and students who supported our program today and throughout the year. We are grateful for your help in instilling the dream of a college education as a real possibility in the lives of these children. Joining the group today will be two high school seniors from the first year of the program who will be college freshmen next year – one at KU and the other at RACC – who will be speaking about how their participation in the program influenced their decision to go to college.
