Dr. Randy Kaplan, Computer Science, was on campus recently to check out some technology developed for NASA. It is called GIGAPAN and it allows photographs to be shot of a scene in sections.
"It is a kind of robot picture taker that takes pictures of parts of a scene by automatically positioning the camera on the part of scene to be photographed," Dr. Kaplan explained. "So if you have a
14 Megapixel camera, you can actually take a picture consisting of 2,000,000 megapixels or more. The really cool thing is that you can explore the composite photo to the level of detail of each
individual photo," he said. Above is a panorama of the Alumni Plaza he photographed. To see the image at full-size, please visit its URL: http://www.gigapan.com/gigapans/11a3e281fa55f733006e97199fdac431

Congratulations to José Molina,
KU director of government relations, who was appointed to

The members of GACLA make suggestions about legislation, policies and procedures; in addition, the commission ensures the prosperity of the Latino Community, as well as keeping the state government within reach.  Molina, a KU employee since 2001 and a 2004 alumnus, was chosen as the Latino Outreach Coordinator for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2007. He was selected as the 2008 Latino of the Year by the Allentown branch of the Puerto Rican Cultural Alliance.

Window washing in selected areas will be taking place at the Academic Forum, Sharadin Arts and Boehm Science on Tuesday, Aug. 7. Thank you.
