Call for Papers - PASSHE
IAPRS Philosophy & Religious Studies Conference at Kutztown University
Keynote Speaker: Lynne Rudder Baker, Distinguished
Professor of Philosophy, University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her areas of
research interest are Metaphysics, Philosophy of Mind, and Philosophical
Theology. She is the author of Saving Belief: A Critique of Physicalism,
Explaining Attitudes: A Practical Approach to the Mind, Persons and Bodies: A
Constitution View, and The Metaphysics of Everyday Life: An Essay in Practical
Realism. We invite papers from students and faculty on any topic in philosophy or religious studies. Papers should have a reading time of 15-20 minutes, be prepared for blind review, have a 100-word abstract, and be submitted electronically in an easily accessible form. Decisions will be made by March 1. Undergraduate students whose paper is accepted for the conference will have their rooms for Friday night paid by the IAPRS. The top three undergraduate papers will be awarded prizes if the papers are of sufficient merit. Students whose paper wins a prize are encouraged to submit their papers to Janua Sophia. This booklet is comprised of entries about women who have inspired the lives of men and women within the Kutztown Community, and is published each March, Women's History Month. K-SCANs will be replaced by a new interactive “degree audit” in the very near future. This new tool is easy to use and will be beneficial when advising students and doing graduation clearances. However, it will require some training to enable you to use it to its fullest capacity. We will offer training in two parts. This is the information for the first part of the training.

Kutztown University’s new lecture program, the Anabaptist Lecture Series, continues next Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. in the MSU Alumni Auditorium with presenter Donald Kraybill, Ph.D., nationally recognized authority of Anabaptist groups, Old Order Amish and Mennonites. Kraybill will describe and explain Old Order Mennonite culture and compare them with Amish practices. He will present research from his book, “Horse-and-Buggy Mennonites: Hoofbeats of Humility in a Postmodern World.” The book also compares and contrasts the Wengers with other similar traditional Anabaptist groups. A professor at Elizabethtown College, Dr. Kraybill is author/co-author of 16 books. He studies socio-cultural change in Anabaptist communities and also serves as the series editor of The Young Center Books in Anabaptist and Pietist books published by the Johns Hopkins University Press.
