ACTIVITIES

The Kutztown University men’s rugby team was victorious in both games yesterday at the Men’s CRC Qualifier 7s/Las Vegas Invitational Tournament.   The Golden Bears  clobbered Creighton, 52-5, in the opener, and shutout Claremont, 42-0, in the nightcap.  KU faces Missouri today at 11 a.m. EST.  If the team is victorious,  it will compete in the tournament quarterfinals beginning at 4 p.m. EST today. The semifinals and finals are slated for tomorrow. The winner of the 32-team tournament will qualify to play on NBC in the June tournament in Chester. Tournament information can be found at:

You are invited to the 2012 African American Read-In,
a celebration of Black Literature and Black History. It will be held at the Bear's Den Lounge on Wednesday, Feb.15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Faculty, staff, and students who attend are invited, but not expected, to read a piece of African American literature that they enjoy and/or teach, such as work of poetry or an excerpt from a book or play. The KU Information Channel (KUIC) can now be seen on Service Electric Cable television channel 266 in the Lehigh Valley. KUIC features the KU message board, select KUTV programming, and audio from KUR, the campus radio station. KUIC can also be seen on channel 24 on Service Electric Cablevision in Kutztown and eastern Berks County, and on Hometown Utilicom channel 28 in the borough of Kutztown. Dan Lasko, a junior here at KU, lost his leg to an IED in Afghanistan, but it wasn’t enough to slow this flag football athlete! Lasko competed in the Wounded Warriors Game in Indianapolis, Ind., last Wednesday, earning the game’s Most Valuable Player award with five touchdowns and two interceptions. The game was played as a part of the festivities leading up to Sunday’s NFL Super Bowl XLVI. Take a look at the interviews with ESPN and Ch.69 below.

Professor of fine arts, Evan Summer, presents a Faculty Shop Talk, “Printmaking in the U.S. and China” on Friday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m. in MSU. The presentation is free and open to the public.

 

Professor Evan Summer specializes in etching and combines it with other techniques and prepares his own printing. Summer’s art work has been displayed around the world in many of his own exhibitions including the Guanlan International Printmaking Workshop in China (2010), and the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice (2007). Summer’s also received the Tai-he Masterpiece Award at the Beijing International Print Biennial along with two awards offered by Kutztown University. In late August 2011, Professor Summer was recognized by the KU Foundation & Alumni Engagement with the Arthur & Isabel Wiesenberger Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching presented annually to one faculty member who has served Kutztown University in a manner which sets him or her apart from faculty colleagues. 



Eve Ensler’s, “The Vagina Monologues” returns, and will be presented by the Women’s Center and FMLA on Feb. 9 and 10, in MSU, room 218, at 7 p.m. This student production is performed in conjunction with worldwide V-Day campaigns to raise awareness and funds for local anti-violence initiatives. Tickets are $5 with a student I.D. and $10 for non-students and may be purchased by cash or check at the MSU Information Desk. Proceeds will be donated to Berks Women in Crisis, Planned Parenthood of Northeastern Pennsylvania and the V-DAY International Spotlight: Women and Children of Haiti.
