KU Anime Club is attending the Katuscon convention, National Harbor, Md., this weekend. Students leave Thurs. morning, Feb. 16 and return on Sun., Feb.19. Katsucon celebrates Japanese animation, comics and Japanese influence on youth culture worldwide. Through student initiative the KU Anime Club has raised funds for this, their one annual outing. Any courtesy faculty might be extend to these students, including allowing them to make up missed classes or assignments will be appreciated. Earlier this month, 17 KU art education students joined with 24 Quakertown High School students and three art education alumna, Amy Migliore, Jen Montgomery and Lora Mayer to participate in Project Innovate. The Quakertown and KU student designers spent the day working in teams to brainstorming, prototype and designing their "Trashion" (Trash+fashion=Trashion).  Their designs, along with those from students across the state, will be featured in a fashion show at the Pennsylvania Art Education Associations [PAEA] fall Conference next October in Harrisburg. On Tuesday, Feb. 14, tune in for talk radio with Dan Donahue on "The Dan Donahue Show" from noon to 1 p.m. Then at 1 p.m., it's KUR's exclusive gay/lesbian talk show "This Way Out" followed at 1:30 by "Fifty One Percent," talk radio for women. At 2 p.m., it's "Kutztown Live" with our very own Mike R., sitting down with folk, pop, and soul superstar Joy Ike. Hailing from Pittsburgh, Ike's singing has been compared to Norah Jones and Fiona Apple. Ike will be performing live in Kutztown in a few weeks. Find out where and a bit about Ike herself on this live sit-down interview. At 2:30 p.m., Mike R. welcomes a representative from the KU Poll Workers to speak on-air about a unique opportunity for KU students to participate in the U.S. election process and make a few bucks while at it.

Winter Family Day
– Saturday, Feb. 18 - Students, Staff, Faculty and Families are invited to our 2nd Winter Family Day! We will have a variety of games, crafts, food, and activities for all ages at our PRE-GAME FUN, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center. This includes the Climbing Wall, Herps Alive – an interactive reptile and amphibian experience, and students and family members can enter a drawing to participate in a basketball shooting contest to win a $200 bookstore certificate. This is followed by the Women’s Basketball game at 1 p.m. and Men’s Basketball at 3 p.m. The Planetarium in the Grim Science Building will also have two family shows at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. The MSU movie that day is “The Muppets” at 2 and 8 p.m. A fun filled day for the entire family! The Kutztown University men’s rugby team advanced to the semi-finals at the Men’s CRC Qualifier 7s/Las Vegas Invitational Tournament this past weekend.  After decisive victories over Creighton and Claremont on Thursday, KU opened Friday’s pool play with a 38-7 win over Missouri.  The Golden Bears then advanced to the quarterfinals of pool play where they defeated Buffalo, 31-0, and Miami (OH) 17-7.   The two quarterfinal victories allowed KU to advance to the tournament semi-finals on Saturday, where the injury-plagued Golden Bears fell to eventual champion Life, 25-7.   The KU men’s rugby team will now prepare for its spring conference schedule, which begins in March.  For more information visit, http://www.kutztownrugby.com/

There is a great new show in the Student Union Art Gallery featuring sculptures by Lauren Smucker. "A Study of Natural Forms" will be on display from now until Feb. 22 with a catered opening reception on Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 6-7 p.m. Please stop by and see her work and encourage your friends to as well. Applications will be accepted from graduating seniors cleared to walk at the spring 2012 Commencement ceremony. In order to be considered for this distinction, a candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:
-have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 entering the spring 2012 semester,
-demonstrate service to the university community and demonstrate a record of good university citizenship and cooperation (Presence of these qualities shall be demonstrated in the application process and letters of recommendation.),
-demonstrate evidence of meaningful co-curricular involvement, and
-be in good disciplinary standing.
