In support of the Schaeffer Auditorium project, there will be an electrical power outage on Sunday, Feb. 26, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. This outage will affect the following buildings: Grad Center, Kemp Building, Old Main, Risley Hall, Sharadin Arts, President’s Residence, Boehm, Academic Forum, and Grim. Personnel in these facilities should plan accordingly and turn off their computers when leaving for the weekend. Thanks to everyone in advance for their understanding and cooperation.

Mütter Museum Trip - The Anthropology Club and the Department of Anthropology/Sociology are sponsoring a trip to the Mütter Museum of medical history and medical oddities, in Philadelphia. We will be leaving at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, from the parking lot behind OM (near the Georgian Room). There are still a few seats available on a first-come, first-served basis. The total cost will be $8, and $5 cash must be given to Dr. David Webb (OM 469) in order to sign up. The Anthropology Club will reimburse all students $5 after we return, but please bring the additional $3 with you on Saturday. For more details, contact Dr. Webb at x3-4245.

International Mother Language Day at Kutztown University - Please join us to celebrate the International Mother Language Day in MSU Alumni Auditorium tomorrow, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. In 1999, UNESCO proclaimed Feb. 21 as the International Mother Language Day to celebrate cultural diversity, and it has formally been observed every year since 2000. Dr. Carlos Vargas, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs of KU, is the keynote speaker at this public event. The theme for this year’s event at KU is Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture. A cultural performance will be presented by the Puerto Rican Culture Preservation Inc. Please encourage your students to attend.

Employers view interpersonal skills as necessary candidate qualifications, and often assess these during a meal. Learn the basics of proper dining etiquette including introductions & handshakes, following the lead of your host, tackling flatware, handling tricky foods, and other dining tips. By understanding dining etiquette, you can use it to your advantage to feel confident in any situation.

Odell , an author and entrepreneur, is a nationally recognized speaker who was featured in USA Today and Yahoo Finance. He will be coming to our campus on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in SDH, room 1. Students will get the unique opportunity to hear a funny and very insightful presentation, win prizes, and learn how to overcome financial obstacles. On Tuesday, Feb. 21, tune in for talk radio with Dan Donahue on "The Dan Donahue Show" from noon to 1 p.m. Dan has retooled his show a bit to take on more of a global education perspective, so tune in to hear the positive changes.

Then at 1 p.m., it's KUR's exclusive gay/lesbian talk show "This Way Out" followed at 1:30 p.m. by "Fifty One Percent," talk radio for women. At 2 p.m., it's "Kutztown Live" with our very own Mike R., featuring Green Party candidate for President of the United States Dr. Jill Stein. (KUR has attempted to contact President Barack Obama, Republican presidential candidates Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, and Paul, Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, and fellow Green Party candidate Dr. Kent Mesplay for interviews, as well. So far, only Stein, Mesplay, and Johnson have responded. Dr. Mesplay will be on "Kutztown Live" on Feb. 28.

Applications will be accepted from graduating seniors cleared to walk at the spring 2012 Commencement Ceremony. In order to be considered for this distinction, a candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:
-have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 entering the spring 2012 semester,
-demonstrate service to the university community and demonstrate a record of good university citizenship and cooperation (Presence of these qualities shall be demonstrated in the application process and letters of recommendation),
-demonstrate evidence of meaningful co-curricular involvement, and
-be in good disciplinary standing.

 There is a great new show up on the Brick Wall showcasing Amanda Welford's paintings. "Dystopia" will be on display from now until Feb. 29, with a catered opening reception on Monday, Feb. 20, from 6-7 p.m. Please stop by and see her work and encourage your friends to as well. As always, we encourage you to attend the openings and to support student artists, mingle with art-appreciators, and eat free food.

ATHLETICS
Please join the Department of Athletics for the annual Faculty/Staff night on Wednesday Feb. 22. All faculty and staff are invited to come support the Golden Bear basketball teams as they complete their home regular season schedule vs. Mansfield University. Light refreshments will be made available for all faculty and staff in attendance in KY 106 from halftime of the women’s game, through halftime of the men’s game. We will also be recognizing a faculty member at halftime of the men’s game for their support of the student-athletes. The women tip off at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m. Thanks to all faculty and staff for your support of our intercollegiate athletic programs. The Department of Music will present its Annual Faculty Scholarship Benefit Recital on Monday, Feb. 20,  at 7:30 p.m. in the Georgian Room of OM. A total of 15 faculty members will be featured, performing works of Ewazen, Mozart, Piazzolla, Poulenc, Scarlatti and others. The finale features an ensemble of 11 faculty members performing Zodiac, a new work by student composer Sarah Slater. This is the only concert for which the department charges admission; $20 for adults, and $2 for students. We hope you will consider joining us for a memorable evening of great music to benefit the music scholarship program.
