KU senior Elizabeth Heness stands in front of an "incredibly old rock deposit" in South Africa where she, Professor Ed Simpson, University of Pretoria professor Adam Bumby and two UP students
researched a site near Tolwe, Limpopo province. The formation in the photo is estimated at 2 billion years old; older, in fact, than the pre-Cambrian rocks of Pennsylvania which are relative youngsters at just 1.1 billion years old.
